2.5T engine has VVT hubs on both camshafts. At least one is bad, as you describe it.

You need a camshaft lock tool to do VVT hub. It attaches to camshafts on the other side of engine and does not allow them to move. I recommend to read VVT hub replacement procedure as you need to do marks and and know how to preload hub the right way.

When you say preload what kind load are u taking about?

Consider replacing serpentine belt, tensioner, and pulley too. In the hoopla of timing belt these parts are often ignored. It operates mother of all systems.

I understand the slots should be at 3 & 9 but should those little notches match on both cams? Meaning should both notches face upwards? The intake notch is at 2oclock and the exhaust notch is at 5 o'clock.
