Please someone save me as my wife would serious hurt me if I bought another and my therapist would probably shoot himself and I might also!
I thought I posted this one before but can't find the posting. Car has what is believed to be a rod knock. With so few 2000 laser blue V70r's sold in North America (40?) and I have one then this is a rare car that needs saved. I know there was another one here in Calgary a couple of years ago in bodily good condition but lacking in service history. Owner had to have the trans re-built and put about $6000 into it to get it running well and tried to sell for $10,000. Car had about 120,000km on it at that time.
I have e-mailed the seller for more info and pictures.
Again, I have don't know the owner.

Sometimes you need to be saved from yourself. The owner said he was going to call me at some point today to give me more details. If I get more info I'll post it. But I will definitely NOT buying another P80 AWD!!

Ok, well I spoke to the owner Richard today. It turns out this is the car I thought it was and is a 3 owner car. He bought is a few years ago with the engine knock but has not had time to work on it. He is an accidental Volvo enthusiast having bought a V70XC in white and modifying it. Once he modified it drives so nice he decided he doesn't need the 'R'.
Thanks to me contacting him he is now not going to part it out as he didn't realise how rare it is. Sorry to those of you who may want to buy it (and if you do you need to get on it as he is getting calls even from the US). He is not giving it away, and that was even before I was in contact with him. So if you are interested don't go offering him a few hundred $$'s as you are wasting your time.
Turns out he is the same guy trying to sell a couple of P80 wagon tailgate spoilers in excellent condition with all the hardware. I posted a link to his ad in parts for sale as someone was looking to buy from him. He said someone had been in touch he packed it up and never heard back from them with the payment!
I can tell you what I know of the car. When I knew it about 3 (?) years ago, it had about 125,000km on it and it now has 160,000km on it (100,000miles).
The body was in excellent condition and he claims it has been carefully stored and is still in great shape. He bought it from the 2nd owner who was another Calgary enthusiast who saved it. Shortly after he bought it it had a full transmission rebuild on the 5 speed auto box. The brakes and suspension I think also needed work. I know when I last talked to him he was into it for $6500 in repairs. He then sold it to Richard when the rod knock started. He has spoken to a small Volvo specialist company in Edmonton who believe it can have the engine repaired fairly easily. I did deal with that company a couple of times and they are a down-to-earth group of guys. The original owner of the company has sold it to the 2 brothers that worked for him as he is retiring, but according to Richard they know their stuff.
I only realised when I was talking to Richard I have dealt with him previously as his e-mail came up when I dropped him some info he asked for.
Hopefully the car will be saved by an enthusiast and I wish you luck.
Neil.

I agree that's a good looking car (the 96 NA 5 speed), but could they have been any LESS helpful about its actual condition? I wonder why they decided to sell it as a parts car.

The hole deal is curious, apparently the car was used by the MCSATF for training purposes? Maybe that's why they need to sell it as a parts car. In any case, I can't have another car right now, otherwise I would make a phone call.

Car looks pretty good. From the description does not look like the car cannot be re-certified, but it does need re-certified for Maryland. Again it looks like a good prospect being a 5-speed manual so fairly rare. Only shame is it is a 96 not 97 GLT so it has no turbo.
Someone has to save it!
