Try looking this number up on eBay too: 321 955 531 A This is what I have in my S70.
Should work with your Volvo and it's much cheaper if you didn't already buy one on-line.

From the images and descriptions I see on eBay, that relay wouldn't be adjustable for the wiper delay time. But in your experience, is it?

Thanks, but where do you see the arrow?
There's no arrow in that picture, that's the point. It is a picture of a 196 relay.

Here's a 99 relay, with the arrow: 99_relay.jpg
Hi,

Thanks that is what i was hoping for, a pic of the relay that actually had the arrow. That way i know for sure.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi,

You think you could show me the link to the relay itself? That would help a lot.

I went out to the car this morning and forgot to take a pic of the relay because i had a lot of other things going on today. I was checking the voltage though that we had talked about in another thread with a new meter i got at a Radio Shack that i found still open in Somerset. It looked pretty good although not ideal at 12.22 volts before starting the car then 13.8v after starting. I would prefer a higher voltage after starting though. That 12.22v is after 2 days of sitting in the driveway with the engine off the whole time.
MrAl - you drive so little (info from another thread) you should probably have your car on a trickle charger on weekends to keep your battery up to snuff. 12.2V on a battery is pretty low and it won't live long if you let it stay there.

Hi,

Yes you are right, and thanks for reminding me. I was going to look into a solar charger or construct one myself but did not get to doing it yet. I actually have a panel and everything, but did not use it yet. I have to modify it to mount maybe on the dash or something. I guess i have to hook into the OBDII connector because the cigar socket disconnects when the key is off.
Yes i can go three days without using the car :-)

Solar won't work if you are anywhere near Trenton. Chris blocks the sun

Ok, that was mean.

Can you run a cord out and just put a 1 amp trickle charger under the hood

Yes- I believe it's what's in my car and it works. I have a spare one sitting in a bin. When I get some time I'll verify. I just looked on eBay and there are descriptions of that that say it's intermittent.... I'll double check for you. If the one in my car isn't the one in the bin, while I have the lower panel off I'll pop the one in my bin in and see if it works. Oh, and if it works, I'll be glad to just send you this one if you want it - just pay postage. I'll try to do that tomorrow after work.

Hi again,

Well the way the car parks in the driveway it ends up being on the west side, and the house is on the east side, and other cars have to go in and out of the driveway past this car. That means if i ran a cord it would either have to be underground, overhead, or along the ground but could take other cars running over it repeatedly.

I did not think any of these options were that great so i was thinking about trying solar. What is unfortunate here though is that the trees block the west side completely so i estimate i can only get about 6 hours of sunlight maybe only 5 hours. That means i probably need a higher power solar panel too which is more costly then the one i have now. But i figure maybe try the one i have now and see how it goes, i think it's only 10 watts.

I ordered a OBDII male connector so i can plug into the OBDII port for charging as my cigar plug does not stay on with the ignition key off. Hope it works to some degree for the winter, but if you have any other ideas i'd like to hear them too.

Thanks,
Al

Hi,

Gee i dont know, but i am somewhat sure if the OBDII connector has a 12v power pin then it should be possible. I dont know if they all have this direct connection pin though, i am going to ask more about this myself like the max current rating.

I would just trickle charge at the battery. It's all figured out already, you can get a cheap unit ready to connect there, etc.
