The EASY way to line up Crank marks for Timing Belt

2. Method #2: This method is much easier!
- Note the Locating Pin is at approx 1 o'clock position.
- Incidentally, one of the Crank Pulley bolts lines up with the bolt on the Engine Mount (assuming your Engine Mount is still good and not collapsed), as shown in the red rectangle at roughly 8 o'clock position.

The small Crank Pully bolt is not inline. See alignment marked in orange.

I am the O.P.

Just did a timing belt and pulleys job on a 2006 S60 2.5T.
This trick of using the "locating pin" helped me a lot.

Also, for new TB, I route it using the Clockwise approach,
which makes it very easy when dealing with the VVT hubs.

Basically:
1. Crank.
2. Mech tensioner.
3. WP.
4. Exhaust VVT.
5. Intake VVT.
6. And finally on the Idler pulley.

Do NOT forget to tension the Mech tensioner!

PS: Trick ---> install the serp belt, then rotate the crank.
This way you can verify that the serp belt is installed properly.
Make absolutely sure that the serp belt is correctly installed (use flash light) before starting engine!

Do you do the "90 degrees past timing and then back" method to unload the VVT's before removing the belt?
