Most don’t balance back to within 7 g cm, they just machine it to “keep it even”

I’m on the risk taker side but I wouldn’t risk a Haldex AWD with an unbalanced shaft over just swapping in a used good shaft from Erie or a new/rebuilt one from Colorado. A lot less labor too. I use a generic $25 an hour to value my time spent wrenching, as long as it’s not wrenching hell.

As you pointed out in post 1, the real value here would be to find who makes these joints for Volvo, source them , by them, press hold out, and even spot weld them back in rather than swage.
I agree, however, the bevel gear and shaft are twice the size as my Datsun rear end. The u joint for my Datsun 300 is the one I plan on using. Now I put a Mopar 360/904 combo in this car, and built the driveshaft on my drive way, cut the tube with an angle grinder, and welded the Mopar front yoke to the tube.

No vibration issues at any speed. 7 gm per cm, is a ton of weight. Considering us tolerance is 1 gram of out of balance per foot of shaft

Now wait one minute here! The original shaft is swaged? Not c clip? I may be trying to rebuild the aftermarket shaft, in witch case the previous owner who had the u joint removed and then their mechanic lost the needles is a bigger moron than I thought. Mainly the mechanic, I used to work for him, he's an idiot

Any way rather than us arguing over it I need to just get it done and see what happens, if anything ill just have to replace the bevel gear and housing too. Worst case. However the first drive will tell, and if it's wrong enough to notice and you don't pull it out, you deserve the heartache it causes, because the car operate without the shaft too

this just in , u pull and pay stores in colorado see an average of 4 awd volvos per week, and i have found that most of them are wrecked or have failed engines, ive been pulling rear shafts and installing them in co for $350 and i am making a killing, however these are used parts and if needed i would be happy to assist in locating some if need be, and now that i have a good shaft ive noticed on most of these that shaft shops are just welding in new capps, i dont like this idea.

however due to having a good shaft i can now start making the center u joint kits, i was only waiting for a comparison unit witch i now have, the kit will consist of a part number for a spicer u joint, and shims to make the caps fit and hold the joint in the center. this system will not destroy the shaft and the reapair of your shaft will decresse from 1500 down to about 130 dollors, 22 dollors if you can do this yourself
