You can clean it from out side the block by ramming a small hose through the gunk and blowing the gunk out. Once you get a hole through, you can wire auger it out.

Good luck on bringing her back on the road again!
Is it the red wagon we saw pictures of earlier in another thread (after a storm), or was that another user? That wagon looked like it needed some TLC but I was still impressed by how it held up.

Top tip: before you start working on it, sit in the car. Play your favorite music and imagine going down your favorite road. This process will help you cope with rusted out bolts and bruised knuckles you'll encounter later on
Best of luck and many happy miles!

I've never seen it posted about to pop off the PTC plate, but it made sense to try and was really easy to execute for me. You might be the 2nd to try it :D

Question: is this similar on the p80 v/s/xc70 series? Where is this valve located? I'd like to inspect mine (and modify by removing plate if necessary).
Thanks!

The PTC nipple is in the fat elephant hose that goes between the MAZf and the turbo, it's right down at the bottom, between two vacuum connections. One of the connections is return pressure from the turbo via the TCV , and the other one is...is....is... I can't remember.

The PTC is the big one in the middle with an electrical connection for the heater to help keep it clean

Yes, any 98 P80 (70 series) turbo car has exactly the same PTC.

Located where abscate said.

I don't know that it is necessary to remove the plate, but that's an option. Cleaning the plate is definitely necessary.

She is indeed the tornado survivor! I would be much further along in my restoration if it had not been for my schooling outside the country. She runs great right now but I want her to run for eternity so I'm focusing on long term repairs and so forth.

In my 3 years on St. Kitts I have learned enough about rusty nuts and bolts to last me a lifetime. Every single nut and bolt has fought me to the bitter end on my island 4runner. I had to drill out 4 bolts just to remove the skid plate, its insane. When you arrive in St. Kitts you are handed a complimentary can of PB blaster and WD40.

On the BMW board there are fisticuffs over if one should use anti seize on things like caliper bolts - all the guys in CA, AZ, NM, TX chest thump that BMW says no.

Then you go the BMW dealer in NY, and they slather on anti seize onto everything.

Electrochemistry man - it has the potential for a lot a Fair Days work...

My first purchase here was a bottle of antisieze. I found it strange that none of the employees knew what I was talking about so I went hunting through the store and found some permatex stuff with a caked layer of dust on the bottom shelf. I have used it on every bolt I can get my hands on.

Other fun things that I have forgotten about over time is the fuel tank leak. I remember trying to investigate it 3 years ago and took the panel off of the fuel pump area and filled the tank up with gas to try and find where the leak was coming from. Apparently I recorded a video under neath the vehicle and stumbled upon it today. From the way the gas is flowing I am wondering if there is an actual hole in the tank and not just an old vent hose.

Here is a video

Lets talk about gas tanks for a moment. I'm finally return to the states permanently in few days. I would like to evaluate the gas tank leak and have pre-emtively ordered all new hoses for the top of the tank. I realize the leak could be in one of the hoses or the filler neck or the tank itself since my vehicle has never gone in for recall service of the heat shield bushings. If the worst case scenario occurs and I have a legitimate hole in the tank, do I have to use an 850 wagon tank? or can I use any of the P80 fuel tanks?
