Take a Syncope and make sure the whine is coming from the Power Steering Pump. The pumps in the Automatic transmission can make the same noise. Have you check the Automatic transmission fluid lately? Air in the fluids?

SWMBOs BMW had crickets in her PS pump for about 6 months until I got around to refreshing the PS fluid, with a couple of flushes. They went away eventually and haven't come back for 3-4 years.
I just did a root cause thread on the PS reservoir failure due to swelling in the P80 forum.

I just picked up the car today after a new reservoir was installed and the wine is gone,
I know you give your Volvo a privileged life but ... Wine?
If you left me a Volvo with a reservoir of Wine, the Wine would be gone when you got it back. So don't be hard on the service tech, he just trying to spare your Volvo from a life of addiction and all the problems that come with addiction.
Abscate are you giving lessons?![]()

I've replaced about 12 litres over 50' miles, first ten in the first ten. I've still got 8 litres left in the package so I should get around to replacing some more. But yeah transmission whine has also crossed my mind. I've been thinking about if it's possible to pour fluid in backwards to see if anything comes loose. Level is good.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 17:11Take a Syncope and make sure the whine is coming from the Power Steering Pump. The pumps in the Automatic transmission can make the same noise.
