Will this work to bypass the chip keys?

Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.

The problem with that is, the active antenna can pickup a second RFID chip in the key being used and cause a no start condition.

He will need to cut new regular key(non-chipped key) and to extract the chip from old key or to place the old key around antenna.

This is ALL you need to do...or to glue the old key around antenna or onto ignition lock trim.

Good point. I should say to anyone looking to do this, when you get keys cut, make sure they don't have chips in them. Or remove the chip if they have them, since other chips will make the car not start even if it also detects your good chip.

The keys I got at my local locksmith didn't have chips so no biggie for me. Mine were $55 each but I'm seeing a wide range of prices mentioned online down to half that.

Came across a possible third option. Key cloning for transponders that use the ID48 chip. Which is what Volvo uses. Just need to find a locksmith with a key cloner and find out if it is cost effective.

Interesting. Too bad about needing the car present for the process, otherwise someone could make a bunch of $$ with that doing cloning by mail.

FYI that key cloner is $1200 new - which is worth three key changes at dealer.

Still could - send key, send cloner back to customer, return cloner

I can't imagine that process being cheap enough that it's preferrable to DIY types than just popping out a chip and doing this mod, but who knows. I can't imagine it losing money long term tho so I think you should do it!

There are new units on eBay. Buy it now for $999.00. More than 10 available / 6 sold.

The loaner program would need like a $1500 deposit to make sure it comes back.
If we could extra M-Snope we might be able to get the cash layout down but the process would be longer.

Deposit on M-Snope and payment for Key blank + shipping.
Member sends Original key to Cloner
Cloner sends Original key + M-Snope to Member.
Member sends Original key + M-Snope to Cloner.
Cloner sends Original & Cloned key to Member.
Return deposit.

Another possibility is to have designated cloners around the country. When somebody needs a key cloned the cloneing equipment is sent to the nearest designated cloner then the member can go to them.
