Ignition whine in speakers Topic is solved

Make sure the cable is shielded or it will couple in RF from the ignition system

After market coils generally suck unless you know the brand like Bosch

Yesterday, I took the dash apart again and and soldered the filter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049MWUMQ) onto the power wire for the Yatour box. Splice the filters power wire and ground into the radio's harness. Put it all back together and tried it.

Started the engine, turned on the stereo, no whine. Turned the radio off, no whine. Switched to tape and no whine. The problem is solved. Huzzah!

My thanks to everyone, especially vti who put up with my questions about installation.

We'll have to wait and see about the reliability of the Yatour box but so far it is doing its job. There's a slot for an SD card, a USB port, AUX jack, and a jack to add a Bluetooth adapter. I believe that there is a similar box that has Bluetooth integrated but that's another story.

The AUX port is a standard AUX port, when the radio is set to CD Changer, whatever is coming off your MP3 player is what comes out of the speakers.

The SD slot and the USB port take advantage of the "Virtual CD Changer." You organize your songs into folders titled "CD02", "CD03", and so on up to "CD99". I'm thinking that CD01 is the build in CD drive. You can change folders with the select disc knob. Unfortunately, the HU-613 will only display numbers up to CD10. CD11 up to CD99 are all shown as CD10. Also, the HU-613 doesn't show the name of the song. First world problems, right? The steering wheel controls work to change songs and the randomize button the radio works.

This whole project started because I wanted something better than a cassette adapter for using my MP3 player. I didn't like hearing the background noise of the tape player running. I had been thinking of kludging together something that would plug into the CD changer port. A second thought was buying an old iPod and getting the Volvo iPod adapter. The project languished through two cars and then I found the Yatour box.

Build quality of USA-Spec iPod adapter is sub-par, Chinese Yatour clone is way better. I have had both.

Don't forget to find a secret menu in HU-613 and tune up the equalizer as you want it to be :) Was pretty happy with 613's sound quality, 650 was a disaster that eventually lead to a Kenwood 2DIN and https://github.com/vtl/volvo-ddd/ project.

CD01 is not the on board CD drive. It is just a folder like CD02-CD10. Play on!

Ok, thanks. I wonder if I managed to misspell "CD01". I'll have to check.

One more question. I assumed that the fat red wire going to the radio was the "Always on" and that the thinner wire (don't remember the color) next to it was switched with the ignition. Is this right?

Red is BATT, yellow is ACC (key-switched). If Yatour does not idle-drain too much power then leave it plugged to BATT. ACC is shut off for 1-2 seconds for the engine start, so everything wired to ACC only is rebooted on each and every engine start.

For my Kenwood + https://github.com/vtl/volvo-ddd/ setup I've fed it all through BATT + 4-5 second delay relay that is controlled by ACC: ACC is on - it is turned on immediately, ACC is off - it runs for 4-5 seconds and shuts off unless ACC is recovered.
