Here in the wild west of Oklahoma, we have no emissions testing or safety inspection. Some days I am glad and some days I am terrified.

Exactly, both good and bad. If I were living in Florida I’d be just plucking along but being in Northern Virginia I have to deal with it. I might go with the idea of fabricating an adapter plate. I used to have access to a machine shop so it’s not a foreign concept but I was trying to go about this “quickly” since I do need to use the car. I legally have until the end of January until my registration expires.

Check those state laws before you get vested in this. I think this is well into the realm of emissions systems tampering and you might be able to get out of this thing and get your money back.

The EPA fines these guys will face will make them blanch quickly.

But wouldn't he have to prove that someone at the dealership did this to the car? Or does the dealership have to certify the car is "saleable"?

I see where you are coming from Abscate, but I'm sure alot depends on the circumstances of the sale.

Volvolicious - was the car sold with an inspection sticker provided by the seller? Is the seller an inspection station?

If the car was sold by a private seller and you didn't do your due diligence of checking all the lamps and lights prior to purchase, you likely have no recourse. But if the car was sold with a limited warranty or the dealer did this hack job and slapped a sticker on it...
