On your 1999 the brake position sensor passes a resistance proportional to the brake pedal position directly to the ECM

1999 was the first year that the engine torque was completely managed by electronics, like all cars today.

It won’t impact Hydraulic brake operation.

It’s volvo diagram designation is 7/124

Part number is 9441116

Thanks! But I'm still wondering what the ECM does with that information. What is its purpose?

And what would be the consequence of disconnecting it?

Check engine light, probably no boost ( fatal ECM failure) no cruise control ?, etc

Without knowing the ME7 source code ( which isn’t public) it’s hard to predict what ties to what in software buttorque management is complex from1999 on.

You probably will get an ABS fault too, BCM- xxxx

I know for a fact that the brake pedal position sensor is tied in with the cruise control. Beyond that, I don't know the specifics. ME7 uses it for something, but I'm not totally sure. I have a good ME7 document somewhere, but I'd have to dig around my files.

In 1999 everything got integrated to provide torque management. Even the ac compressor is turned on by the ECM, not just a relay through the ac pressure switch anymore.
