I completely agree with the sentiment. But to be fair, it was Rick who called attention to a "run-on sentence," something I would not have done. As a former English teacher and editor I merely responded to this, well, snarky comment by pointing out that it wasn't a run-on. Your advice is proper but misdirected. I have taken pains to compliment and thank Rick for his advice and would not think of discouraging his or anyone's participation. After all, that's what I came here for. But as a new member, I'm not sure I felt much warmth from that encounter.

Wasn't trying to lay blame, just observing this is a generally pleasant place to be because we mostly discuss car repairs.

And I want my cars to run on regardless of whether my sentences do or don't.

So, is there a recommendation for the transmission software update? Keep in mind that this is not the older tranny that got a B4 servo cover update but a 2007.

Your TCM software is most certainly good (latest). What ATF was put last into your transmission, and when was that done?

As a person with English as his third language, I delete about 2/3 of my replies because they are not passing my internal grammar-nazi, and I'm too lazy to rework it

I'm sure we'll all figure out what you're trying to say, errors and all, and congrats for mastering three languages! The last transmission service used a synthetic (Havoline?) that was compliant with the Volvo spec. This was just a few thousand miles ago. But this was not at the dealer, so no software update was done. Why do you think that my TCM software is the latest?

I bought 3-days VIDA Online subscription past summer and among other things did check if any TCM sw is available. The latest was in mid-2000. My 05 had the latest sw already.

Few folks, me including, got rid of most of weird shifting problems by switching back to Volvo's 1161540 ATF. It is thicker than most of JWS-3309 compatible fluids and certainly gets a higher doze of friction modifiers. I normally add 2-3 oz of Lubegard HFM when ATF starts to degrade, that helps for another year or so.

OK, that's interesting; so there is no "new" software. On the switch to Volvo 1161540: You say "back": Was this the original OEM fluid?

Yes, 1161540 (1l jug) and 1161640 (4l jug) is what was originally inside our transmissions.

The closest aftermarket fluids I had in my transmission were Idemitsu Type-TLS and Toyota T-IV, but not quite a full quality replacement for Volvo OE.
