Update:

Installed alternator, it did not function at first, ensure you solder your connections to the slip ring well. A resistance test showed no connection in the coil. Disassembled, soldered, reassembled and it works like a charm. Turns out the noise i have been hearing was caused by the serpentine belt idler pulley. Going to order a bearing for that and rebuild it.

Hoping to get the writeup out in the next 2-3 weeks time permitting.

Isn't that pulley plastic? I would expect the bearing is molded into it.
