After figuring out it was the Mobil causing the head gasket leaks I stopped for years then the 0W-40. No Mobil for MoVolvo ever again.

For years , shell and Mobil shared a factory for their additive package, but that changed sometime ago.

Since then , it’s good practice to not mix shell and Mobil products from the old factory

I'm not understanding how an oil would cause a blown headgasket.

I think just seeping , not a full “blown” gasket

Yes, not blown as there were no coolant involved, just oil leaks but they became pretty bad in no time. 03 E320 60K, 99 Galant 99K, and 88 Camry Wagon 235K if memory serves me right. All three were on the edge of the block.

I noticed today my local Menard's got a bunch of Rotella in stock. I did not buy any, but I likely will. I've run the T4 in my truck, besides the T6 in the Volvo.

I've been reading and I'm confused. So what is the best oil xxw-xx for P80 to use in the midwest?

Dunno, but according to the owners manual 5w40 covers the widest range of temperature, so that's what I'm going with. I'm confused by their thoughts on 5w30 and 10w30. Apparently in Europe they run heavier oils than we do in North America. I would not consider 30 a light oil, but very normal, and currently on the heavier side compared to what many manufacturers are now specifying.

I'm still not sure what the factory fill for my 850 was.... I'm guessing 10w30. I don't see it listed in the manual, and I don't see it on the cap.

I like 5w-40. I have a bunch of that (Rotella) in the garage still. Using it in all the Volvos.
