Had the pleasure of replacing a balljoint today. Axle seal won’t be in until tomorrow so I kept myself busy after work.
What a joke! Air hammer they said. Brass punch they said. I tried both for well over an hour to no avail. Had to use a 3lb sledge hammer with an extremely hard pointed chisel to slam it off like hell, with the help of a roofing prybar. Thank god for BB’s 2” iron pipe tool (nipple + endcap, available at Noble Supply for any Canadian forum members) suggestion. Reinstallation was a breeze with that thing. Knuckle reassembled with new wheel bearing and balljoint, reinstalled to the strut tower and tie rod. Ready for the axle tomorrow after the driveshaft seal at the angle gear is replaced.

Had the 03 S80 T6 towed to a friend's house. Hoping to take the accumulator apart next week to check for debris or broken spring. Put in the Transgo Shift Kit a couple of years ago. I mindlessly, didn't pay attention to a leak when my Son had it when he didn't live at home. Turned out to be the transmission pan bolts needing retorquing after the shift kit install.

Finished installing axle seal. Installed axle, set balljoint into control arm (painfully). Torqued everything. Test drive yields success! Hopefully that’s all for my vehicles for the next little while, I need a break.
Also did oil changes on both of my vehicles.

Did you replace both the smaller inner and larger outer seals? (Not the O-ring) And it was a pry out, clean up, grease and pop in job? I have a little seepage from what it looks like the larger one. I have both, but have been procrastinating b/c I just had the XC aligned a month ago.

No, just the small 38mm diameter drive axle shaft one. The big one, I believe referred to as the crown seal, looks to be a much larger PITA.DonnVa wrote: ↑21 Sep 2022, 05:26 Did you replace both the smaller inner and larger outer seals? Preparing to weld in a new flex joint in the exhaust downpipe, I accidentally blew my welder up.
New mig machine arrived today, immediately tested it on small section of exh tube.
Very happy with the welds it did right out of the box, still don't know what all the buttons are for but it sets itself up automatically.
Just select the metal thickness, ... amps, voltage and wire speed is done for you.
Not a single blow through.
Flux core wire, no need for gas, its just exhaust pipe.

I wish I had the stones to get into welding. But I simply don’t have the proper space for it. It seems dangerous to weld in my driveway. Nice work jones.
