More statistics on US states and COVID-19 growth rates. My raw information is from Worldometer. Any errors or misrepresentations are my own.

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
The CDC has announced the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency and more states have ended Covid-19 reporting. Since May 14, 2023, 33 states and territories have not reported results. However, I still have been receiving reports from other states through Worldometer. I will be continuing daily reports as long as the information is relevant.

State growth rates for February 14, 2024. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate 30 day average (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands (0.353) with 26,117 cases, Wyoming (0.105) with 195,197 cases, New York (0.077) with 7,537,709 cases, North Dakota (0.069) with 307,797 cases, and Puerto Rico (0.036) with 1,456,157 cases. US Virgin Islands has been in the top 5 states for 28 of the last 28 days. Wyoming has been in the top 5 states for 30 of the last 30 days. New York has been in the top 5 states for 452 of the last 497 days. North Dakota has been 0in the top 5 states for 236 of the last 255 days. Puerto Rico has been in the top 5 states for 59 of the last 65 days.

Several states have stopped posting new case and new death numbers. I will back calculate where possible. These Districts and states have not reported in the last 30 days or more: Alabama, Arkansas, California, District Of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Veteran Affairs, US Military, Navajo Nation, and Federal Prisons.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.00855 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.00547. This is not population or case number weighted. Yesterday, 47 states and territories did not report new cases.

Daily active case counts have been rising the last several weeks. There have been 466 of last 744 days with decreasing active case numbers.

New Hospital admissions are reported by CDC as number of admissions per 100,000 of county population. Reported for February 3, 2024 were 2932 counties (90%) with less than 10 new admissions per 100,000 (low risk area). There were 280 counties (8.7%) with less 10 to 19.9 new admissions per 100,000 (medium risk area). There were 7 counties (.22%) with more than 20 new admissions per 100,000 (high risk area). The number of High risk counties dropped from 20 to 7. It appears from my local review of this data, rural hospitals that serve multiple counties may be over counted as the same number of cases are applied to all counties served by the hospital. This is shown on the CDC map detail as several counties in an area with identical number of new cases reported for each county. I have observed that the number of counties with medium and high risk has dropped in the last 4 weeks. The total number of Covid-19 hospital admissions dropped 10% for the week.

In early August, the number of reported active cases had dropped below 800,000 for the first time since July 2021. As of September 4, active cases were above 1,000,000. January 17, 2024 active cases rose to 1,167,209. Daily active case counts are now consistently below 1,100,000.

There have now been 111 million total cases of Covid-19 in the US. This is 33% of the total US population. Reinfections and under reporting will distort the total number of cases.

With new home tests widely available, new case counts are likely under counting the true number of active cases.

State growth rates for February 19, 2024. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate 30 day average (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands (0.159) with 26,117 cases, North Dakota (0.082) with 308,176 cases, New York (0.079) with 7,547,254 cases, Puerto Rico (0.029) with 1,458,612 cases, and Delaware (0.022) with 348,931 cases. US Virgin Islands has been in the top 5 states for 33 of the last 33 days. North Dakota has been 0in the top 5 states for 241 of the last 260 days. New York has been in the top 5 states for 457 of the last 502 days. Puerto Rico has been in the top 5 states for 64 of the last 70 days. Delaware has been in the top 5 states for 189 of the last 251 days.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.00164 for yesterday, down from previous day of 0.00213. This is not population or case number weighted. Yesterday, 55 states and territories did not report new cases.

Daily active case counts have been falling the last couple weeks. There have been 468 of last 749 days with decreasing active case numbers.

New Hospital admissions are reported by CDC as number of admissions per 100,000 of county population. Reported for February 10, 2024 were 2820 counties (87%) with less than 10 new admissions per 100,000 (low risk area). There were 370 counties (11%) with less 10 to 19.9 new admissions per 100,000 (medium risk area). There were 32 counties (.78%) with more than 20 new admissions per 100,000 (high risk area). The number of High risk counties increased from 7 to 32. The total number of Covid-19 hospital admissions increased 0.8% for the week.
