So does this one. How much time to do the piston rings and slap on some crank bearings? Have consider these as they are kind of cute and sporty but the engine problems make them cheap and of no value especially if it breaks on your watch.

That’s a sub 300 clunker, it would be $1600 with the head gasket done.

That would need a complete rebuild at that point, if that's the case. I guess you COULD just slap rings and bearings on it, but it's best to hone the cylinders.

Definitely true. People don't seem to understand that most non runners (even if it runs, but it's at the point it needs and engine) are not worth more than $1k. Particularly when they're not some special, sought after cars.
I remember the days of picking these up for $300 and they still ran

Which years and models are affected by the engine problems which you mention? Is it all the Ford-era P3 cars? Would help us know which NOT to buy.

It seems the later RNC engines (found in the P3s) had more problems than any of the older RNCs (P1) or any other 5 cylinders. I'm not sure on the specifics, but I have seen a lot more for sale with engines that have failed in some way. It seems to be related to oiling issues.

Those little sporty S60s get bought by kids and driven hard. The sedate sedans and wagons get cared for by adults. Kind of like the Rs, either a show car or a wreck
