One of the many questions I asked before committing to travel from Glasgow to Slough to view the V70 was are the tyres good. The vendor had provided some lovely pictures in the advert and they looked like matching set of good quality Michelin tyres .
His answer to my question was that he had changed all tyres and me being a bit naive (well I’ve only been round the block a couple of hundred times!!!) assumed he had fitted 4 new Michelins. The car was MOT’d the day before I viewed it and it got an advisory for two back tyre sidewalls having cracks in them, so I knew something was a bit fishy. When I challenged the vendor he admitted he had fitted part worn tyres so one of the many deductions from the price was for a couple of tyres.
A couple of days ago when I took the wheels off to do the handbrake I had a look at the inside wall of the tyre and it was much worse than just sidewall cracks. Three of the 4 tyres have been run when flat and scrubbed the inner sidewall and delaminated the inner and outer walls, known in the trade as the 'black ring of death'.
3 of the tyres have had poorly repaired punctures where the repair patches were departing the tyres. This could have caused a serious failure at high speed when the tyres heated up
4 new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 tyres fitted and my local KW which was as expected and they tried to sell me an alignment. A 'free alignment check' is included when you buy tyres so I said "go ahead and check it" only to be told if it did need adjusted it would cost me £64.50. I said just check it and then I'll make up my mind. 10 minutes later I was told the alignment is out, it should be in the green and is in the red. I asked how much it was out and he told me he doesn't really know, they've only had this machine a few weeks and he's not sure how to read it fully. Geez you couldn't make this stuff up... I said I would leave it for now and he said he would adjust it for £50... No thank you, take my car off the ramp and I'll take it away...

@ abscate, I think you're over valuing him at 50p!!!
Is seems that the USA are in a better position than the UK & Europe when it comes to supply of certain parts for the P2 cars. Mudflaps are like unicorn horns here in Scotland and after searching for the past two months I had all but given up. I mentioned them to a local parts department manager and he said he thought he had seen a full set tucked away at the back of a shelf last year and was unsure if they were still there, he would have a search for them and let me know. A few days later he called and told me he found them. So yesterday all 4 wheels were removed again to allow fitment While I had the wheels off I cleaned the inside and gave them a coat of wax ...and it would be rude not to clean the wheel arch liners The P2 mudflaps are a better fit than the 850 mudflaps and contour the curves perfectly When I had the new tyres were fitted on Thursday I drove the car straight home which was less than a mile, so yesterday I went for a drive to see how the tyres performed. What a difference from the dangerous illegal rubber that the vendor fitted, the steering vibration/shudder that started around 65-70 and never went away has completely gone. I now need to carefully watch the speedometer or I'll be collecting points.
EDIT:
I had planned to check tyre pressures yesterday before going out for my test drive but I had a senior moment and forgot, only remembering once I was about a mile from the house. On the test drive they did feel overinflated but I couldn't check them until they had cooled down. 22 hours later and my trusty calibrated PCL gauge did show consistency between both front and both back tyres, shame they were all around 5psi over inflated. Rear should be 30psi, both read 34.7psi Front should be 31psi they were 35.2psi and 35.3psi.

I procrastinated the subframe bushings on the P2 yesterday. Progress on making the P1 more reliable through some proactive maintenance and repairs. Getting that air box out is an exercise in frustration, I’m tired.

Installed some LED's in the low beam slot. You will need an led with a balance resistor/load type device. LED's look good and will see how they perform tonight.
Put off the transmission drain and fill until better weather and more time is available. I think i can snake a metal funnel into the fill slot so it should not be too hard.
Got a line on front bumper and rear bumper for 150 each in better condition then the one i have on. Will need to find some wiper nozzles and hopefully that will get the washer system functioning again.

Just dont fill quickly on the transmission. Small trickle in and it wont make a mess.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Had my timing belt, both tensioners, water pump replaced by my Indy. Also had an abs ring changed as it had cracked and changed and upper motor mount. Was the biggest service yet at about a grand. However the piece of mind was worth it. Car drives great although I am keeping my ear to the floor for a potentially bad wheel bearing.
Put in led with load resistors on the low beams and re aimed theblights.
Things to still do:
Transmission drain and fill
High beam led
Fix passenger temp sensor
Fix rain sensor.
Alignment

I drove it around a bit to loosen up the suspension in preparation for some new parts.
I use Rock Auto's website to see which brands are popular, and then compare their shipping with other places. These are Lemforders from FCP. They seem well built, but I'm not crazy about the retaining rings for the boots. They look like they could get sharp.
