I think SIPS bags were optional up until '96 or '97, then they became standard. Not entirely sure on the year, but I know by '98 on the X70s, they were standard.
There were never full curtain air bags in these cars, the SIPS bags were the only option. IC airbags weren't available until the P2. My S60s have both had them. For research purposes, they could easily be confused, but as far as I know and have seen, no IC bags for P80s.

If most those parts were replaced with aftermarket junk, almost anything/everything. If they were done right then great, but at $1k I am skeptical. Worth looking at!

I learned SIPS is the name for the stuctural design of re-distributing side forces to the frame - on all P80s as a design feature.
Side curtain air bags indeed optional in 1995-6 (market dependent), standard 1998 on.

I hate people who quote and reference. Getting jabbed with the pointy part of Grahams Hierarchy of Disagreement hurts.

RHP - Im calling you names. (thats the base part of the triangle)

All P80s from '94 or '95 on should have the SIPS (maybe even all of them, I can't remember exactly) structural support, but the SIPS bags in the seats were introduced later. They started out as an option.

Yes, SIPS started as structural support then went to bags and then curtains. However there was a SIPS-BAG II for the 1999 and up S70. This is the side bag that extended to the head in the video I posted earlier. Was confused by it now it makes sense.

"In 1998, for the 1999 model year, the system was extensively redesigned. With the launch of the Volvo S80 the IC airbag, [23] a curtain style airbag [24]"... Because of technical reasons the existing Volvo S70, V70 and C70 models were instead equipped with the SIPS-BAG II. [13][25]

Finances permit to purchase something more late model with Curtain Bags. I love Volvos but am not a diehard for any particular model so 99 S70 and up. Those at least have a SIPS II which has a larger side bag that extends to the head.

Son got rear ended by an older lady driver wearing thong slippers in her 50th Anniversary Mustang. He was slowing for an interchange and she just drove straight into him no skid marks. She changed out of the broken slippers before the LEO arrived. Had that been a T-Bone without Curtain Bags! Still working with her insurance but one Estimate was $5700 so the 03 Lexus is totaled. Have gotten cameras for all the cars now.

Thanks for the checking for aftermarket junk parts!

Make sure you take the doors off before junking so children don’t get stuck in that soul-less junkyard appliance

Thanks for posting! I was pretty sure P80s never got true IC bags. That was a P2 thing. Good to know the '99+ models got improved SIPS bags.
