I don't wish to upset the P2 'R' owners, but like the P80 AWD's you have to be brave/foolish to take them on. Previous maintenance is key. Taking on a shed or a car with no maintenance history is a quick way to frustration and large bills. I should know. In some ways the P2's have an advantage in being younger cars with better parts availability, but the downside is the expensive 4C suspension, AWD maintenance (who ever does that?), and then dash issues (like potentially all P2's) and add to that the electrical issues they can be plagued with. Try following Ellliot Alvis on You Tube and his V70R he rescued. He fixes one issue and straight to the next. So a good maintenance history, hopefully with most of the expensive repairs already done.

I have considered a P2 V70R several times but just can't pull the trigger. There is currently a 05 V70R for sale locally and the owner wants $5k CDN. Claims he is a mechanic enthusiast, then lists a bunch of expensive repairs which will cost thousands to repair. Not even a spaceball either!

Rs can be a lot to maintain. The problem is that too many of them got into bad hands, and they just fall apart. Then it's one thing after another to get it back into good condition.

Here is the example I was talking about. If this doesn't make you laugh then you need to get out more!:

$5000 CDN for a car with a potentially scrap motor, at least a head gasket blown, a smashed from bumper, bad rear wiper and more. 'Mechanic' maintained...................!

Zero argument from this owner - they are pricey to own and not worth the expense unless you just want to try owning one once, e.g. to possibly see how fast they go safely ... :)

But, several people on this forum do AWD maintenance!

@ Mechanic owned for six months”

What does that mean? Abandoned due to repairs. Not economical ?

Hopefully one day! There is a 88 760 for sale but about 300km away and it doesn't run. Great looking car in dark blue:

Would be a nice project. Only issue is that the cars with sun-roof are a little tight for headroom for me like my 89 760 turbo was.

2016 XC70 T5 / auto of course / 132k miles / $17,000

I really dig this brown bronze, but not the light cream interior. It says "color: custom"...hmm. It was hit, or someone changed the color for fun? Is that the 5 cylinder, or something newer?

Do we trust these newer Fordish Volvos?
