Ooo, a 510 wagon, and a cool one! I’ll bet there’s an interesting engine under there!

Yes, Datsun 510. Middleish 1970s? It's got a weird ability to look larger far away, smaller closer up. And the inner fog light headlights are just awesome.

The wheels are probably a size up from stock, but are not too attention-grabbing to take the eye off the car itself. One of the rare examples of an aftermarket wheel complimenting the car's look, instead of grabbing their own attention with all the subtlety of a jet fighter air battle.

Little chrome bumpers, so I’m thinking ‘72 or earlier. The 510 was a really good car with a simple, clean design. There was chat that Pininfarina did some consulting on that design - look at the proportions, simple lines, that nice indented crease down the side. Then compare to any contemporary Datsun of the era. It was not the same guys.

I have a memory that the 2-door coupe/sedan had an Indepedent rear suspension as well (?). That car was raced successfully in the Trans-Am series against the Alfa GTV coupe and the BMW 2002 in the 2-liter class. Some knock-down, drag-out battles, including a fender-bending final between the Datsun and Alfa.

Yes, pre 1973? 5 mph bumpers I think.

We had a Datsun 1200 coupe early in 1972, ooofla that was a cheap POS

Back when Japan copied the three and throw away model, at 1/2 the price

Here’s an odd one. My friend brought this by yesterday. It was free... The owner insisted he take it. My friend offered to help him sell it. He said no, he didn’t want the money.

It runs, it drives, it’s registered. It has some rust in the floors. The tires are from 2013. You could have a picnic on the bumpers.

Name that car!
