Most of the anti-science crowd are pretending pure EVs would be plugged in at max charge constantly, as opposed to as-needed; the charging systems only give the battery what it needs, and the rate obviously decreases as storage requirements are satisfied ( In Submarine Talk, finishing rate.) Everybody I know who has one plugs in at night, if at all. One of my neighbors in DC parks his on the street, only charging it at the house once every couple weeks.
The power grid has been on Ignore for decades. The big infrastructure bill is said to have provisions to help, but that will take time.
Large systemic failures have been nearly normal in some places for a while; California and Texas come to mind (see "Ignore", above.)
DC had one a few decades ago, plunged a quarter of the city into chaos just at evening rush hour. It would've been funny if it hadn't cost me a days pay.
All of the loudest honking is coming from the Budweiser-fueled radical right wing crowd, just looking for the next thing to whine about.
An old Navy buddy competes in J-class boats in Annapolis, and when loud, pointless rants break out on a competitors boats, says he thinks they had a few too many 12 oz. Bud "thought cylinders".

Thought cylinders and angry rich guys on expensive boats make me chuckle!

Demise of convenience stores. Essentially, stores now have to compete to get people to stop, easy when they need gas. Charging at home means no stop at the store for the paper, beef jerky, lotto, or other stuff at 300% margin - gas has been a loss leader or breakeven at convenience stores for a long time now.
Stupid me. Business opportunity

‘Shop here, charge for free while you shop, or “your charge costs validated here for in store credit”

Any where with decent power can use charging as a cost of customer acquisition tool. No need for tanks, fire extinguishers, etc
