Thank you for the well wishes and support.

I guess my terminology was incorrect but I mean the driveshaft to the rear wheels. I have both the front axles out already. I took the 6 Allen bolts out but can’t get it to release from the ag. But I also haven’t given it any slack by releasing the carrier bearing so that could be it.

I was wanting to remove the ag while I’m here to give it a good inspection because it is oily. So I’ll be yanking that sucker out when I can.

My cheap car is quickly becoming not so cheap haha. But I’m hopeful it will perform well once I’m all done.

Thank you all so much for your continued help! I may mess with it a bit today. Although it is a job it helps me relieve stress a bit to focus on the repairs. I appreciate yall!

Ok I got the ag out. I ended up letting it sit with kroil oil on it for about an hour then put an exhaust stud in the two holes of the flange on the ag side. I’m assuming that’s what these are there for. Still had to break out a 3lb sledge to smack a 2’ aluminum drift that was against the stud in the hole. After all that I’m pretty sure the ag is perfectly fine and the oil is from the turbo haha. Oh well, at least now I know for sure.

Well, my dad passed away Thursday so haven’t had time to mess with the Volvo much. Today I don’t have a ton going on so went and fooled with it some. Got the old trans out, the junkyard trans in and the ag back in. Not sure if I’ll get it all back together today but I will have some time tomorrow as well in the morning so hopefully I can take her for a test spin by tomorrow. We will see. Still have to slap the subframe back up there, secure all the mounts, put the axles back in and put all the suspension and brake bits back on, all the lines and pipes and hoses up top as well as the electrical connections I had to undo. Pretty good but still yet but hopefully I can get it going soon. Just wanted to give an update.

Thank you Matthew.

I got the sub frame back in place, all the mounts bolted down, the driver side hub/steering/suspension bits together. Still have all the up top stuff, passenger side and mounting the driveshaft to the ag. Hopefully tomorrow she will be ready.

Ladies and gentlemen. It is with great pleasure I tell you I have successfully driven a 5 mile test run and this thing shifts great! There is some vibration when in reverse and sitting still with the brake applied which I have no clue how or why that’s happening but honestly I couldn’t be happier.

I really really appreciate all the help you all have given me while working on this little project. It is great to know there are fantastic people out there willing to help a complete stranger on the internet solve their problems. Thank you all very much!

If anything arises after I put actual miles on ol Ruby Sue I’ll be sure to make a post about it but hopefully she does good for quite some time.

Congrats!

Vibration in drive (or reverse) is likely coming from upper and/or lower torque mounts.

You may consider adding some Instant Shudder Fixx. Link is here:

I do not consider it snake oil. I added after my long term fill and drain.

Well now that you mention the mounts that is probably it. The one on my trans at the bottom was shot. The one that I got attached to the ol junk yard trans was equally bad haha. I’ll have to order one. And the mount at the top cross bar seemed pretty janky too honestly.

I will look into the lubegard. I have a 2000 Buick regal gse with the weakest trans known to man coupled to a supercharged v6 so I’ve tried a couple things to prolong the life of it. I’m not totally against additives. I appreciate the suggestion.

I also changed the oil/filter and fuel filter. The fuel that came out was brown. It didn’t have any fuel when I got it so I put some 93 octane non ethanol in there along with some stabil. After that filter change I went and filled her up with 93.

The oil filter housing was super crusty in the bottom. I cleaned it out with compressed air and a couple shop towels. Hopefully that crud isn’t inside my engine. The oil looked “well used” for sure haha

Lower mount should be very soft or face the vibration. A lot of aftermarket mounts are hard.

Top mount w/ square rubber should have some slack too. Tighten it with the engine running.

Also be aware that Volvo's five cylinder is very shaky engine. Amount of vibrations that would be an indication of some failure in other cars is totally normal here :)
