Test drove a S70 T-5 1998 5 Speed, looking for your thoughts

I'm going to have to test drive a turbo judging by the responses here, I must be missing out on a lot!

Ok well got fed up after three weeks of carshopping....

Picking up a '99 S80 T-6 on Monday. $3400, 175k drives real well and has practically new tires and brakes. Fingers crossed it was a good decision.

Well, at least you'll get to know them both!

But do a tranny flush on that S80 as soon as you get it...keep that transmission going as long as you can!

Trannys are weak huh? I think its a 4speed. At least it shifs well and appears to be cared for, thats a good start. TBH im fed up looking at cars, not a good state to be looking at I know but the whole family is suffering.

Yeah, the S80 uses a GM-sourced transmission that the T6 engine is hard on. I wonder if it's been replaced already - the XC90's that use the same one have trouble lasting over 60K - our neighbor had his replaced TWICE within 3 years.

I think if they're well-taken care of, though, they should last a while.

just an idea, if your set on having a 5 speed manual tranny. Buy a good auto sedan/wagon, then when the time is right pickup a mid 90's 5 speed 850 n/a with a blown engine or thats been smashed.
I ve seen quite few locally for about 400$. Then you are set for the swap. plus alot of other parts.

this is the route I am going to go as I also need a couple front fenders. Parts cars pay themsleves off everytime.

The red one hit a deer about 6 years ago, and luckily we still had the old, rusted out one to steal parts from. 2002 parts are UNBELIEVABLY hard to find.
