I've since been able to clear all but one code: P0172- system too rich bank 1. I suspect it's a vacuum leak but can't identify it seeing how I don't have a diagram to work with. Any ideas?Ozark Lee wrote:You may have more than one issue to sort out.
Is the Check Engine light on? If not, does it come on with the key in Position II but the car is not running?
What we really need is some error codes to work with, otherwise we are just guessing. If you don't have a code reader most of the chain auto parts stores will read the codes free. Be sure to get the actual Pxxxx numbers, not the auto parts store suggested remedy. Nine times out of ten they tell you that you need a new (and very expensive) oxygen sensor to cure your problem. Nine times out of ten they are wrong.

First place to check is the little elbow on the end of the intake manifold, tucked in behind the power steering pump. It is hidden but accessible with a flashlight (for inspection) and long nose pliers (for replacing). You can see it in the diagram.
I just added a diagram for 850 non-turbo (from a 96, your 98 will be the same) to the pinned thread with vacuum diagrams (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... f=1&t=6941), here it is again:

And just in case, here's a diagram for SAS, if the car came with it and it hasn't yet been removed:

Inspected the elbow on the intake manifold and it looks and feels good to me.erikv11 wrote:First place to check is the little elbow on the end of the intake manifold, tucked in behind the power steering pump.
