Over the last 20 years motor oils have vastly improved, hence the tighter clearances manufacturers are using to improve fuel economy, reduce friction and gain power. Conventional oils have improved but still contain contaminants like sulfur, wax and asphaltic material that can promote detonation as well as varnish and sludge build up. That being said I'm in agreement concerning the use of conventional oil, aka "Dino Oil" on a Boosted motor would cause premature failure,performance loss, sludge build up in key areas of turbo system, ect. . Full Synthetic lubricant is available and I say why not take advantage, on a boosted vehicle.

That's exactly how I see it. I think my car was running conventional before I bought it, and I bought it with 168k miles. I don't know why it was running it that long. I've been running synthetic since then and it's been running great with no consumption. Just an oil cooler line leak that keeps coming back...

I buy Mobil1 fully synthetic for my S70 and change it out every 7-8K miles. Sometimes I have tried O'reillys own fully synth and that works fine too. Whenever i have to do some bigger job, the internals look brand new almost. No burnt oil crap or nothing. I usually buy the mobil1 online for better price.
