I have the 30751805 plugs in my 2010A XC60 T6 now. VIDA has the 31286359 listed for Chassis # 135000- and after.pgill wrote: ↑24 Jul 2020, 10:05
The answer to you question is availability
In 2007 the Denso SIP was still new and unproven
So the Engineers in the Premier Automotive Group chose the simpler fine tip Iridium.
This was the conservative safe choice.
So for me I am choosing to use the latest design that was qualified by the Volvo Engineers.By 2011 something changed the minds of the Engineers.
Note: the 3.2 design didn't change significantly
Having said that any of the spark-plugs from the picture in the post above should work fine.
My Goal is to make it to 300,000 mile on the original coil packs and original catalytic converters.

I'm getting the dreaded P0420 all the time and I think it's due to soot because of incomplete combustion. I clear the code and it doesn't come back at the most about 3 months, sometimes 1 month, sometimes 2. (I do think my CAT is trashed from worn piston rings, I'm using Castrol Euro synthetic 0W-40 for several oil changes and it takes longer for the soot to buildup on the exhaust pipe tips than it did with 5W-30, so that's my gauge, I clean them and wait see how fast they get dirty again. Lol)
I looked and it appears that the Cylinder Head - 36012435 is the same part number for both 3.0L and 3.2L from 2008-2016, so that didn't change in 2011. I wonder if the ECM software code changed in 2011? I doubt it. The ignition coil part number is the same for model years 2007-2016 also. Do you think they'd remap the ignition software just for a newer style plug, I also doubt that.
If I follow the chassis number guideline they want me to replace with the 30751805 plug, however from that Denso video you posted that shows the flame kernel expansion, I want to get the Denso 4704 IKH20TT Iridium TT Spark Plugs! Anything I can do to lessen the soot I "think" could help with the P0420 code. Or like you said on that Toyota you spoke of, fixed it.
When I go to the Denso website and search using 30751805 and cross reference it, it shows the Denso 5639 VKH20Y Iridium Tough Spark Plug is the compatible plug. But then using the filtered search using my year, make, and model it says it's not compatible with the 2010 XC60 T6. It's like Denso knows that they don't want you to use that older plug style, when you can use a more modern better type plug.
Finally, I guess what I'm looking for is your input and experience with using the Volvo updated plug vs the original plug they installed in Ghent Belgium sometime around April-June 2010 or whenever they designed the T6 3 liter engine back then.
I don't need to worry do I?
I have 184K miles, and I have new coils (last year) new thermostat as of 2023, and PCV breather box with gasket as of 2024.
And I just ordered another spare anti-drainback valve ML3Z-6A606-A https://www.fordpartspros.com since I can't find my original spare I had when I installed the last one.
Thanks for your help in the past, and in the future,
Johan
