Sorry to distract, but does anyone know what this little door is in that compartment next to the radio? I often stuff my phone and wallet in there and then forget them when I get out.

My 2001 V70 T5 has a pop out cup holder behind this cover. I rarely use it because it is not very sturdy.

I have a Bentley manual for midyears Volvo 240 series. It is great for detail but cheaply bound. Bentley never made a manual for V70 series - I have checked.

I’ve been happy with the Alldata subscription for my Volvos, it’s about $7 a year when you buy for 5 years. It’s all web based, so I can even access it on my phone on the road. It’s essentially VIDA INFO, but not as comprehensive.




You might have to rid yourself of the Bavarian virus before A Volvo person will let you into the club.

Our E83 Bentley is a bit dry and not complete. For example, I did an AC evap and it said “ remove bolts”....two of the four were hidden and I lost an hour looking for them. For a $100 manual I want the bolts listed by fastener head size, bolt size , and length.

two questions I'd ask, the mfger of the CV axles and how many keys does it come with.
Then offer 2500.... no matter what the answers are.

Keys for a P2 are expensive - make sure you get 2 at least - they have to be coded to the car by the dealer. Adjust price accordingly to the number of keys you need.

(In our house, a minimum of three - key is use, spare in house, and the full set of spares in the hidden wall safe with the formula for COke.

Ah to get lost in ALLDATA! A classmate of mine shared his GoodYear password years ago and I found it quite helpful. I've been talking with Dave at Volvo Diagnostic Laptop about his plug and play offerings as, after reading 18 pages of VIDAness, I decided I'd rather employ the KISS principle. We're working through whether Chromebook can support his SSD boot right now. If so I've already got a spare 'garage' Chromebook I am willing to switch to developer mode for the diagnostic cause. Any of you have experience with Dave's products?

Abscate, you're hilarious. You might be right about my BMW. I can't get the starter to catch for the LIFE of me so I'll be horrifying my snooty millennial hipster neighbors and replacing that on the street (I bring all the class to the yard). I'm looking forward to sweating and cursing it out.

Although I'm not from here I'd say that business assessment is accurate but with sweet tea. ;P

The 2001 owner and I have had a discussion. I politely offered him $2300 cash based upon rating the car as 'Excellent' on KBB and taking into account the need to repair the sunroof and driver's seat. He was very kind and said they were "pretty firm" on the price based upon their own research, condition of the car etc. I said I'd consider it but I really can't justify that price for the '01. I've also crossed the '07 off the list.

The search goes on.

If you guys don't mind, I'll use this thread for my other prospects when I find them. If you see or know of anyone selling their '01-'07 v70 terb similar to what we've been kicking, post it here or throw me in the direction of the seller. I don't mind catching a car right before the timing belt needs to be done, that I can do. I was hoping I could find one and use that as leverage. In the mean time my Haynes manual has shipped and I am looking forward to reading it when it arrives! #nerd

I never go by a KBB price. Always too high in my experience. I generally look at an average of KBB and Edmunds (always lower than KBB with older vehicles) and negotiate from there.

In my area of the country (Mid-Atlantic), Edmunds tends to be a better price guide.

I try to educate folks fixated on KBB that there are other valuation services out there and they often produce values different (read lower) than KBB values.

I wouldn't necessarily be fixated on a turbo or AWD drive model either. In the South you almost certainly don't need the AWD (extra expense and weight) and I've never found a non-turbo fwd model inadequate to my needs. With Atlanta traffic you'd never use the turbo anyway.

I suggest you broaden your search to include non-turbo, fwd. Likely to be cheaper if you can find and test drive. If you find one with geartronic (shiftable automatic trans), that might be the best of all world's, but I am not sure whether base, fwd, auto offered geartronic as an option. If you find one, test drive and experiment with geartronic before you take the plunge on a turbo.

I’d also say to not get too excited about a T5/HPT V70. The LPT’s are more than adequate & you can edge out a T5 performance wise with a simple $400ish dollar ECU tune. For example, depending on the tune you go with, a LPT is easily capable and still very safe/reliable at 15ish psi (stock ~7psi). An aftermarket downpipe makes a nice improvement also.

Go get the price difference from Biff and Brittney buying your Bimmer.

Those LPT guys will always be happy in second place, but you and me in T5s know better. You can beat tune with a CBV BLUE diaphragm and keeping your revs up above 3500
