Oh my! Was going to ask the question of how to replace the rear assembly on the 02 V70 XC. The rear lower passenger assembly has a huge crack and taking on water. Did you have to remove all the pieces like this video to replace those? What's the difference between regular vs jewel?

Brought back to life a dead battery and removed the injectors. The Bosch S5533B came with the 2002 V70 XC and needed to be jumped when it came off the car carrier. Car has been sitting so the charger needle was not moving a hair. Can't remember where I saw this and what type of battery it was. I went ahead and reversed the polarity with the battery charger and the charger went full tilt AMPs pegging the needle. This indicated there was still continually and a not an open from a broken post or plates.

Did this several times for a quite a few seconds and then tried charging it. Saw a little needle movement so just tapped the post a dozen times and it seemed to come back to life. Left it on for 36 hours and it's fully charged to around 12.7 Volts. Once I get the injectors in and perhaps on the road I'll see if the battery is still any good. Has an 02/21 manufactured date.

With the battery in, tested the continually of the injectors and found #4 opened while others were 12.2 ohms. There were voltage at all the plugs so glad and hopefully it's the one injector causing the rough running and engine shut off. Removed the fuel rail and order a full set of generic injectors from A-Premium. Have purchased some parts from this company previously from another website but recently purchased a starter direct for the 05 GS430 so decided to try the injectors. Has a 3 year warranty and the seller is very friendly and responsive.

To remove the fuel supply connector, I had no clue at the time, since I couldn't flip up the green tab with a small screw driver I decided to push them in. Discovered another on the bottom so push both in and hope for the best while pulling.

When depressing the green tabs (red arrow) the two holders (yellow arrow) will pull back allowing the supply tube to be released. Found some left over wire shelving parts to cap the supply line and keep debris out of the injector holes.

Yes unfortunately you have to remove all that trim in the back to get to the taillight nuts, its a bit of a hassle. Be cautious because the plastic is brittle and can crack easily. The Jewel taillights came out in "05 or "06 I believe and have a different reflective background design that looks a little better and has 4 leds on the bottom part, I'll attach a photo of them close up.

The hardest part of trim removal was the 2 side trims for the tailgate surround that runs behind the lights. Stupid design that you have to remove the trims to change a bulb. You might be able to change bulbs without removing anything other than the small insert panel beside this under the side windows.

The top panel with the light has to come out. It is held in with 7 metal spring clips. I found it easiest to start at the back after removing and disconnecting the light and the T25 screw above it.

The 2 side panels are the hardest. They are held in with 4 nasty plastic 'U' head clips that are almost guaranteed to break. Maybe not all but most. There are 4 either side.

Start from the bottom as the panels like to crack about mid radius near the top.

You also have to remember to remove the upper tail light you have to prize up the roof trim clip as it holds the top of the upper section in place with a plastic hoop attached to the top of the upper light.

Remove the upper light first. It can be reluctant as there is a plastic barb about mid-point that likes to get tight in it's guide hole. Some pressure from the inside on that barb helps to persuade it to release.

I'm going to assume the wiring harnesses as the same as blacklab did not mention they were different on the 03 he has.

I compared the 2 types in the junkyard. I have to agree the 'jewels' look better.

Exactly 1 year ago yesterday since I bought the V70. It's been a lot of work, time and money sorting out the issues caused by ten years sitting unused in a garage and there are still a few small jobs I would like to do to keep it going for another 18 years.

Today I took a look under the bonnet today to check my levels and happy to say nothing required, while I was under there I had a feel under the turbo and it is bone dry. Happy days.

Still going on the maintenance with the XC.

I spotted for a fair price the body door seal, mine was going bad. quite easy to do, 10 minutes job!

There must have been a lucky star for me last week! While looking for that door seal my eyes were catched by something...
A online German junkyard received a totaled 2005 XC70.
Amazing they look brand new! A set of rear shock absorber Four-C for sell at a very very fair price, i just hitted the button!!

Shocks are Monroe c1503s the rest is all Genuine Volvo.

The left connector was crashed, Connect 37605 is the plug you'll need, i could extract the pins easily.

Do the windshield trims do anything or is it just cosmetic? The ones on mine are half-rotted away.

Based on a tip off by Blacklab, I infiltrated another local junkyard and absconded with yet another set of 'Jewel' taillights. I was surprised when he told me they were on an 04 XC70. I was told they ran from 05-07 on P2 V/XC70's.

When I listed the part numbers for the fitment of these lights, it stated that they were fitted from serial # 173000 on XC70's. This is the car they were from:

https://www.picknpull.com/check-invento ... H041171300

The chassis number is too early, so must have been fitted at a later point. There was some signs of poorly refitted trunk trim so maybe it was done then? But having said that his car's chassis number is only 1700 early, so it is possible some 04's may have had them fitted.

Naturally this junkyard sells the sections individually. I checked when I entered and was told they generally charge full price for one part and then they charge for a 'lens' for the other, so a total charge of $25 + $15 CDN. The other yard I use charges $35 for both parts!

I turn up at the pay desk and the lady who spoke to me was no longer there, and so the only other person insisted they charge me full price for each part! Oh, but they had a deal on this weekend of only $20 for each part not $25.................!?!? So the same?

If they charged me what I was originally told and got no discount I get 10% off as a senior..................

Hm. I think I have a discussion to have on my next visit!

Adding insult to injury, someone had taken some of the bulb holders. The lights are good but not as nice as the set I got for Blacklab.

Such is life.

Now more cleaning to do and more to add to the stock list, Yahoo!!

I think they do both things, cosmetic as well as to allow the water or dirt going through the drainage hole instead of the car body.
There is also the axle from the hinge in that corner that could rust easily, a foam is there to protect the axle.
