Yes, it looks like you have found the location. It's easy to access from underneath if you lift the front of the car.

Without removing bumper? That would be slick.

Sorry about your fender bender - that's so frustrating.

Luckily "only" a headlight and a crumpled hood, which we have to deal with at a later point. A quick search revealed nothing available in Moondust at the junk yards here in NE. I was able to straighten it out though so it doesn't touch the new headlight at least.

Glad your daughter is okay. Regardless how careful things do happen. We just hope they will gain some experience from the accident. From more info today the car was moving slowly in a parking lot of an apt and the Jeep rapidly pulled out perpendicularly. From some newer pictures received today the rear bumper made creases with no scraping. This indicate the Volvo was moving slow and the depth showed the speed with which the Jeeper backup.

The rear passenger has seat belt burns on the neck so a pretty heavy impact. The Volvo took it well.

Seriously, as long as it knocked some sense in, then you are good. :D

Glad it all worked out in the end!

I am having your day today. Finally got access to my son's 06 XC70 long enough to swap the long overdue cabin filter that the dealer does not seem to have swapped in years. Should be a 10-15 min job max. Quick YouTube refresh, and then discover they are all wrong as they only show the base units with a pollen filter. None have the IAQS system. That filter sits in the less accessible rear of the 2 slots.

Instructions all show:

1) Remove 2 knee bolster T25 screws beyond the rear of the glove box and either side of the floor light which shines in your eyes.
- Done
2) Pull straight down on the bolster panel and wiggle it out from the LHE. Done! - Oh, bugger. Stupid clip on RHE broke off.
3) Remove 2 reasonably accessible and 2 nearly impossible to see T25 Torx screws. Done.
4) Remove front filter filter. Um, there is none. Oh but there is a wider and less accessible rear one you have to bend to remove. Done
5) Remove stuff from the floor to get room to fit new filter. Drop the cabin filter box cover and break it. Bugger :o

OK. Will plastic weld the cover as it need to be back on, the undertray will wait until a junkyard run hopefully finds another as now NLA.

Glue the cover with JB Plastic as the hard cheap plastic will not weld with my plastic welder. Now have to wait until the glue dries enough or it will glue itself to the filter housing.

So job will now take way more than the 10-15mins the last time I did this job. Please get me another P80!!

Adding onto this, my fuel cap gasket is torn through in a few spots. I may be lucky and will try to replace the fuel cap to fix the issue. The gasket material had folded over itself when i had pulled off the cap.

I remember doing this on my S60 recently. Way more of a kerfuffle than the p80s and my partners car. My only solace is that the IAQS system seems to be a HEPA filter, and should last a ways longer hopefully then the normal pollen filters. I noticed the difference in air quality after changing mine as the old one was dust covered.

Cabin filters don't last long on the West side as all the smoke from the North and B.C. wildfires almost all summer and into fall clog them up really quickly. The one I removed was filthy dirty with caked dust. Not sure how long that has been in there. P80 R was only out for about 1000 miles last summer and the filter was filthy with dust.

Looks like it is going to become either an annual or at best bi-annual task going forward. At least I have another excuse to go to the junkyard tomorrow. My mechanic buddy is having challenges with the heater core and pipework on his 850 AWD as it likes to keep leaking even after the core has been replaced and the seals and firewall connector and seals.

Definitely harder than it ever needs to be!

I've been replacing the cabin filter twice a year, before spring pollen and after.

Went to the junkyard to replace the broken plastics from the cabin filter debacle yesterday. I have JB Plastic glued the parts together and the car is up and running as normal. Just don't like having the parts broken. Got a call last night from my ex-Volvo mechanic friend to see if I could do a favor and go to the junkyard to pull a heater core from the only car there. Drive the 30 minutes there, get a list of vehicle locations, walk the 400m to the yard and, oh, Row4 which had the red 98 V70 on the end is the only row empty..... Strange it is still on the list and on the web-site. Just great!

At lease I got a couple of RHS front under trays for the dash and managed to remove them without breaking them and a cover for the filter housing. Not a complete waste of time then!

There is a 95 850 in another yard not far away so go and have a look. Pull the heater core and,....Date code May 1995.............! Well all I go for my wasted time was an over extended knee. A joy!
