I just dug the wagon out of a 2 1/2’ snowbank and the frozen wall of slop the city snowplow shoves. A bit of crawling back and forth high-centered, a bit of shoveling, and out she came. Now we have a “slip” to back Lady Betty into.

So this answers my earlier concern about no AWD - she now digs like crazy with Blizzaks. When I can, I’ll change the pump filter and oil, and top off the angle gear oil.

My s60 has rear nivomats and the rear is higher than the front. My question is if this tool has the potential to lean forwards and fall since the front of the fenders slope downwards toward the bumper? There are similar support bars with an additional support arm that goes to the front of the chassis and leans on it but it's more expensive.
I have the one with the extra arm. The engine still may/will shift. Which is not a big problem: you can lift the bar by one side and move it to where the engine pad installation will be easier. On AWD car it is about 150kg to lift, yours is even lighter. Can always support the engine with floor jack while the bar is repositioned.

About the same style I will attempt, balkan style. Serious question though, what is the minimum height I need (from ground to jack points) to successfully remove the FWD AW55?

I built them to be around 50 cm, so that I could lower the transmission onto the small dolly cart and roll under the radiators, and it was more than enough.

I drove onto 4 plastic ramps ~20 cm high and start jacking up the front to remove the wheels, front ramps and squeeze the "lift" under the car. The "lift" towers were 2 piece each, I would make them 3 or 4 pieces if had to start over. Put a thick rubber on top to reduce stress on the chassis.

Be very careful while jacking it up. My car was super-unstable. In fact, you may just lower the transmission to the dolly cart and only then start jacking the car up. Otherwise it was not moving anywhere while resting on these towers.

I plan to put the car on jackstands, which are at most 38cm in height, the engine will be held by a support bar, but the actual transmission I will have to remove by jacking it very lightly with a floor jack, I am afraid I have no other tool to get it down with. The only problem is the potential for it to sway, since the floor jack only has a small circular pad.

Although I have access to many many tyres.

Do you have a cherry picker? It turns out very handy to have for the transmission job.

Manual chain host would also work well if you manage to hang it.
