You neglected LOTUS??? (I had a Lotus elite, 1962 version, Lotus Elan, 1964 version and shared ownership of a Super Seven, which we raced SCCA). Those were all wonderful, spirited, quick, easy to maintain and fast as hell! (Well, the Elan and Super 7 were fast, while the Elite would take about any corner and twisties with the best of them back then)

My first few cars weren't technically Euro but they definitly were not typical American. I had a 66 Corvair Monza coupe. The 110 hp engine was more than enough to beat the VWs and I could peg the 120 MPH speedo. I then went to a 67 Monza sedan with the same setup, a 64 Greenbriar van with a dealer installed camper conversion, and then another 67 sedan that I had put a 140 hp engine in with 4 single barrel carbs. All of them had the Powerglide 2 speed auto transmissions. After those I got an 86 Saab 900 turbo and a 74 Saab Sonnet. The Sonnet had what Saab called the "high output" 67 hp engine. It was lucky to be able to hit 80 MPH. The 900 I tweaked so it was putting out approx 200 hp and could keep up with unmodded Camaros and Mustangs. Unfortunately I blew the trans out every year in that one. I got an 87 Saab 900 turbo with an auto trans for my wife but it never ran right. We traded up the Saabs for the 93 850 sedan and my 94 850 turbo wagon.

I had a couple of oddballs, for Canada at least. 20 some years ago I had a 1970 BMW 2002 Touring, imported. Very rare in North America. Basically a good ol' 2002 but hatchback. Some parts were very easy to come by, others impossible. I drove it for a couple of years, blew a shock tower and parked it for 15. Sold it to someone who had another snd needed a parts car
Recently I had a 1984 Jetta diesel 2 door coupe. I bought it for $800 as a "stopgap" car after I turned in a lease and was waiting to get a new car. I replaced the brakes, master cyl, front and read shocks, springs, struts and put in a bigger alternator, all for a total of $1200. The car ran like a top for 2 and a half years, getting 40mpg and costing $125.00 a year in insurance. Because it was so rare (the 2 door) I sold it for $1000 to a kid who was going to turn it into a GLI. All in all the best bang for the buck I ever owned!

Before buying Volvos I drove Buick. I did own a Mercedes that I inherited from my grandfather. It was a nightmare car because the water pump endlessly went bad and Mercedes would have to order the parts which took forever than it seemed no sooner was it fixed it was bad again. One even broke off the engine and went clean through the radiator. I sold the car after that.
It was a 1965 Mercedes 300SE in dark green like Jaguar British racing green. The car still had the hanging tags on a/c control and the radio. Grandfather kept it covered in the garage it's entire life from brand new. It looked like it had just been delivered. It had like 30k miles when I got it. I rarely drove it the years I kept it. I hate to think what it probably is worth today. It had a 6 cylinder engine and a huge steering wheel. Every time I drove it people would walk from across a parking just to look at it. I had it back in the 1990s. June
