I think it is more to do with how much fluid has drained back into the transmission sump.

For a drain and fill though, you measure what you take out and replace it exactly in volume. It's typically three liters of fluid or so.

Fuel pump failed and the battery went dead with the kids trying to start it.
Replaced the fuel pump and drove it for half an hour, Service, Check Engine,
ABS, and Trac lights were all on intermittently.
Got the car home and put it on a charger overnight, disconnected and cleaned
the battery posts, they were pretty bad.
Drove it on the highway and all lights were out, stopped for gas, started it again
and just the Service light came on, but then it went off again.
Not getting any other lights, I'm thinking the low voltage probably screwed
things up when I had the lights, or any suggestions?

Could be the ignition switch going but low battery voltage will cause all those lights to come on. Keep running it and see if they come back.

The service light is supposed to come on for a few minutes and the go off, that's normal

It drove really well, engine runs nicely.

I didn't know or remember that about the Service light, thanks!
We will keep an eye on them all, so far so good. Good news if we
don't have to send out the ABS module.

Did another transmission drain and fill today, the second one. Drained
about 3.5 qts just as most people say is typical. There was a lot of trans
fluid in the area and I don't think it leaked from the drain plug, any common
spots to check? I need to note that the drain plug is 24mm but I bought a
22 by mistake. Our 24mm socket fits but a box wrench is better.

The passenger side of the engine was dry, no oil or anything leaking, the oil
filter area was also completely dry - don't know if that is a good or any
indication about the PCV system. The small hose going up to the flame trap
housing is cracked there - not sure when we will get around to it.

I noticed that even after 15 minutes on the highway it was not up to the half
way mark on the coolant temp. Then I pulled off and after a few minutes in
town it was up. Got back on the highway and it came back down, heat is
weak. I think it needs a new thermostat, I'm just going to do it. The kids say
that the mileage is bad, and I'd guess that running cold is also rich.

Did the thermostat today, used Stant's best for about $18 bucks since I didn't
want to make the 15 min ride to the dealer or FCP. Looks well made and
certainly did fix the problem. Was up to temp in about 5 blocks, have heat now!
It looks like you might have to raise the fuel rail to even get the rear bolt out
but with a slight angle on the tool it does make it, and the cover will clear to
open it up and change it. Drained about 3/4 of a gallon of coolant which was
fine.
I have an excellent grabber thing that helped to not loose any bolts. Loosened
them and put on the grabber to take them the rest of the way out.
Easy job, the bolts were tight so it is important to have 3/8" drive Torx tools.

For my own notes the Volvo plug taken out was:

ABS, TRAC and Check Engine lights came on again.
Have to send out the ABS module and have the codes read again.

Maybe you'd be willing to rent the tool. I'd love to get rid of my service light which of course I find annoying, just as everyone else does.

Found the cable on ebay but it does not say anything about Volvo so I'll just
get VOL-FCR as a download assuming that will work.

Sent off the ABS module for repair and was thinking of doing the odometer fix.
I watched Robert's video but I'm not sure how to add a lot of miles. It is stuck
at 89K miles and we need to advance it to about 130K miles - still need to read
out the exact value.

Is there a procedure to do this? Add a lot more miles that is.

Is the replacement gear any better, hope we get more than 90K out of it.
