I can verify that using a bluetooth OBD-II reader + Android phone + "850 OBD-II" app works rather well at pulling cluster mileage.

Thanks to all! Actual mileage is a little over 109K. Replaced TCC solenoid, ran perfectly for 3K miles...then fried the same solenoid again. Same codes, same behavior. Obviously there's another issue, my tranny guy and I are chasing down info, any input is welcomed. The behavior is changed, temporarily, by switching the Econ/Sport switch...wondering what that switch directly affects...and might it be the switch itself? Mine does not light at all any more, and the Winter button does nothing at all...

Hello forum - problem with tranny is in 3rd gear, getting a new drum for it and doing a rebuild. Builder is suggesting an external cooler - I can't see the need. Already cooling fluid through radiator, new build, and never towing anything - would I actually need one?

No you should not need an external cooler, although if you live in a hot area it may give a bigger cooling area for tranny fluid. Also if your radiator is getting old, it is possible for it to leak oil from the transmission into the coolant if the seal fails in the radiator.

Your choice, but not needed.

One day there will be a day of reckoning for those who sell external transmission coolers, extended service contracts on bathroom fans, and Skylab insurance.

They may be suggesting an external cooler because :

1) risk of cross-contamination in radiator mounted unit.
2) risk of friction material contamination in your current cooler.
3) demands of particular climate, or use towing.

But you already answered no to those above.

Trans fluid getting in the coolant is a mess, but it wont kill the car right away.
Coolant getting in to your trans will cause all kinds of havoc. (glycol checks are usually free at a trans shop, just a litmus paper)

If you are worried about the above, replace your radiator if it looks old.

When you said W button didn't do anything, do you mean it had no effect? Or that the car would not move. W mode should cause car to start in 3rd Gear, and yours was toast, so it should have just revved and sat.
