P1081 should be anti-theft, also known as the immobilizer.

P1081 - ECM720A - immobilizer communication.
The P1081 is an immobilizer code. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is either not reading the OK code from the immobilizer or the immobilizer is sending a disable signal to the PCM, causing it to shut off injector pulse after start up. Need a Volvo scanner to test inputs at the immobilizer. The only other thing to do is disconnect the connector for the transponder ring at the immobilizer control module, which is next to the combination switch in the column. Test continuity between terminals 2 and 4 of the connector. It should be approximately 5 ohms. If out of range of that spec, the transponder ring is likely faulty. It can be replaced without any reprogramming of the immobilizer. If it tests OK, then try a different key if one is available.

Re: New catalytic converter
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Okay thanks Wiz I will keep that in mind and try to check that out soon!
Unfortunately the car is a one key wonder, FOB and other key are who knows where with a previous owner
The key I have may be the main or the spare, I do not know.
I keep checked my code reader to see if the catalytic test would ever complete, not yet. The evap did complete and all is well there, all that is left is the cat.
