Maybe I’ll give them my 1999 With the active canbus , ask them to program a key, then drive their car around while they wait for it to go quiet

Oh, a relay to ECM went bad supposedly. That was the news a week ago. My Service Advisor said it won't be ready anytime soon though. The car was running with the new relay, but the engine light was still on for reason unknown at that time. So two months later my car is still missing in action! Perhaps you're car might get lost too Abscate :?:

Schedule your appointment for service and request a loaner. It's for any owner of any Volvo. Free alternative transportation is for everyone. It's one of Volvo's guarantees to the customer. There are several, and all are for every Volvo serviced at the dealership. June
Hey that's gooid to know too, thanks. I have to write that down.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Thanks June that's good to know too.
I wonder what would happen if there was a recall though with 50,000 cars coming in for repair. That's what happened to another neighbor of mine. She is struggeling to get to and from work now because they said there isnt enough cars to lend out. She has a newish Hyundai though.

In the past they gave rentals. Osteen provided a POS Nissan Altima the first time. Free and I had it for three days. My car was like 10 years old back then. Previously Volvo of Tampa was my dealer and they have Enterprise rental at the dealership for when the Volvos have been depleted.

I alerted Osteen I only feel secure in a Volvo, to please only put me in a Volvo. So I always receive a Volvo. This 2021 XC60T6 is a CPO pulled from the used car lot for me. Had 19K on the clock. Now I have a good relationship with my dealership. To pull a CPO is above and beyond really. They didn't know me when I was provided the POS Altima. That first repair was under $700.

It puzzles me why the majority on MVS have such disdain for Volvo and the dealers.

i.e.,
1. 4T65EV-GT transmission in my S80 T6 is repeatedly demonized. "Volvo took the cheap way out". Yet It is a excellent transmission that can take the T6 S80 configuration and give that luxury car feeling.

The XC90 should have had the 4T80 due to the extra weight. Undoubtedly the Ford bean counters influence to use the 4T65. It could have been horrible and been fitted with Ford's AXOD...

2. Referring to the Dealership as the "Stealership" . The wrong mindset to drive up with! Expect the worse, and likely you will get just what you expect. June

June, I think you and I are the only 2 champions of dealers. I think that may be that I have read so many terrible stories from dealerships in particular in the US. From gross incompetence in damaging vehicles in the repair shop to inability to identify and fix issues. Having said that, some of that comes down to the quality of training given to mechanics these days and the lack of good old school diagnostics without using a scanner of some sort, as even using those is not foolproof.

You, like me, have spent time developing a relationship with your local dealer. We have 2 dealers now here in Calgary, but they are owned by the same people, although the new one is I believe 50% ownership with an out of province dealership.

The new shop has some of the people taken from the original dealer. Fortunately they have taken mostly good ones.

I have been with the same dealer for close to 20 years. Has it always been good. No. But in all but one case we came to a reasonable solution and moved forward.

One of the biggest issues I find today for new customers is the 'up-sell' of work and services the customer does not need or want.
This I find extremely annoying. I know the good service advisors, and the service managers so they know not to try on stupid stuff with me. However, if my son takes his car in they try it with him. I have told him to tell them to call me to ensure he is not having his pockets emptied.

I appreciate dealers have to make money, the problem is all they are doing is chasing people away through their short sighted chase of profit.

The positive of the relationship is I get help and support over and above what a regular customer gets, but it is earned.

I have heard so many issues on the other side with non-dealer repair shops who have no idea on Euro cars here that have done shall we say, 'interesting' repairs on friends cars, and that is only if they know what the issue is! I have advised and repaired several cars for local Volvo owners who have had issues with small local repair shops, that have often taken them for a ride financially. I am currently doing repairs on a single mums 98 V70 which baffled 2 repair shops, and in the near future replacing a radiator on a 06 S60 AWD from a friends 18 year old son who has been waiting for repairs on his car for months at a small repair shop.

I do still send owners to the dealer for some work as it is the best for them and their cars in the long run. If they are uncomfortable dealing with the dealer I will either phone on their behalf or go with them. It is unfortunate this is the case, but not everyone is car savvy like you or I are.

Hopefully your car is fixed soon!!

Neil.

Thanka again for the info.

If i have any disdain for a Volvo it may be because i came from an old school car that had no computer and so everything was cut and dry about what went wrong when something does go wrong. There wsa no computer to lock me out of my own car, no computer to decide that i should not be able to start my car because some sensor isnt working right, no computer to tell me whan something little isnt working with my car, etc., etc. So it's really the computer age car that bugs me.
My previous car was a 1988 Hyundai which was very simple mechanically. No computer. Of course it was a cheaper car than the Volvo when it was new. Things did go wrong with it and on a regular basis, but they were usually simple where you replace something and it works again. In particular, the exhaust system kept rotting out and had to be replaced every 3 years. The drive shafts (left and right sides) had to be replaced somewhat often, the right side had to be replaced 3 times in the 10 years i had it and i did not put much milage on the car. So it had it's problems, but they were usually quite simple.
So any car i got next with a computer i would probably run into the same thing. Maybe that is way people would always tell me how lucky i was to have a car without a computer when i had the old Hyundai.

It’s a DIY audience so we hate on everyone who gets paid to work on our cars.

I have had only positive experiences with the Albany Volvo dealer starting with the CPO purchase in1999

I was able to walk up and get my cam seal otc in the middle of a timing get job. The other impressive feat was being able to order a VIN correct ignition lock cylinder from Germany arriving in three days for a 23vyear old car. Price was nasty, but fitment was perfect and two weeks were saved

Local dealer surprisingly has a number of new vehicles in stock. Come to find many are priced 10% above MSRP, won't darken their doorstep as a result. Very short sighted.

Whenever I see a new Volvo coming out of the dealer I yell…”take care of that for me!”
