Intermittent P0600 solved, almost  .

Problem: P0600, ABS & Brake Light On, Dash Displays & Mileage LCD - - - - - - and no Speedo. Finally Limp Mode, slamming of gears (at times) and flashing arrow. Sometimes goes away by itself or clearing the code.

viewtopic.php?t=81868&hilit=P0600&start=10

After reading the above "entire" post, thanks "scot850", decided to remove the ABS Module plug and test drive. Should be the same as driving with Module removed.

Constant and instant P0600 after clearing besides all the other indicators BUT NO Limp Mode, slamming of gears or flashing arrow.

I had repaired (opened and soldered) the 98 S70 T5 module close to 10 years ago with success. The question is should I attempt another repair and maybe lose a module or send it to Mid West ABS? Eyes and hands are 10 years older now  :?.

Hmm, it’s possible, but it could also be a separate issue. One module acting up within the CAN circuit is enough to throw the car for a loop though, so I would start with the ABS module.
I’d recommend checking the ABS codes, however the two main problems that would cause communication issues between the ABS module and ECM are either the module itself or the wiring. Midwest ABS is probably your best option.

Oh no! What if after paying for the repair it isn't the Module? I was looking at the DIY repair thread again. Need a magnifying glass and a new soldering gun or buy a used one off eBay. Wouldn't hurt to have backup sitting around.

Like I said, the best first step is to check for codes. Also check the wiring, because while it isn't extremely common to have a wiring fault, it's entirely possible. The wires take a fairly aggressive bend at the connector to the ABS module, so that's a good spot for them to fray.

It could also be unrelated, but if the P0600 code correlates with the ABS faults appearing, then it's more than likely related. The ABS module is part of the CAN bus network on the '99+ P80s.

When I got a lot of strange codes, including most of what you are seeing, it was the ABS module, but also corrosion on the contacts of the TCU. There is also a speed sensor that can play up but it is less likely, just is an ABS sensor.

Thanks bmdubya1198 & scot850. I remember I use to get a same or similar code to P0600 but it showed that it was a +5V issue. Was about to remove the module then decided to unplug the power cable and reconnect along with the harness. The P0600 code along with the ABS and Brake light immediately went away. Perhaps the power cable or solder issue. It didn't throw a code after a test drive so will continue to monitor it.

That would point to one of 2 potential issues:

1) ABS cables were corroded or not seated correctly,

2) The wiring connector in the ABS sensor solder joints are cracked and disconnecting and re-seating the cables reconnected a cracked solder joint.

Matty does such a good job and his price and life time warranty has always worked for me and my friends. He also does the exchange where you buy a repaired unit, he sends it to you and then you return yours as a core.

The ABS module has so many signals passing through there that it affects several things which then snowball elsewhere. Speedo is normally the ABS unit needing repaired. Like I said earlier, unless you have been working on the brakes the ABS sensors are less likely as is the speed module.

A buddy of mine ran his car with a rubber wedge pushed down between the ABS pump body and the cables. He ran it like that for a few years before getting a rebuilt unit.

Glad to see you have got progress though!

I did wedge the 98 S70 T5 module for awhile before opening it and re-soldering. If this one acts up again I will try the wedge. If that solves it then I'll either send it in or find a cheap good scrap yard unit or re-solder that if I have to. Trying to keep the cost down but if the scrap yard route doesn't pan out at least I'll have the original that I didn't mangle or damage for Matty.

I wish you luck with the junkyard route. I have a few but never had one that worked from a junkyard. I usually end up sending them to Matty for cores.

4mm socket is a snug fit but need to keep it straight on top.

Reworked the solder on every pin (counted 57) that came through the board. About 1/5 or 1/4 looked like a potential cold joint or broken solder.

Temp sealed it and initial testing shows the codes clearing by itself. Will seal with high temp silicone after some miles.

Didn't take long to slice the cover off. Keep the blade short and hands steady and slowly cut the seam over and over. Recommend wearing some thick leather gloves, standing the seam vertical and cutting downward.
