It’s a halfway project right now. Bought as a parts car but might, possible look into trying to get it roadable

It’s an S70 AWD with a fuel leak so it needs the big rear suspension and saddle tank drop

Abscate, you should start a thread on that, even if it is only something you get to from time to time.

For example, do you have access to, or can you borrow a camera on a cable to try to see if you can see where the leak is on top of the tank?
From that yo may be able to effect a repair without dropping the whole back end of the car.

I know the rear end sub-frame and tank drop seems huge, but provided you can get around the main sub-frame bolt issue of getting them loose (I'd strongly suggest trying an impact driver (air or electric)). Don't worry too much if the heads snap off. Ideally the head breaks off only leaving the stub which is what happened to me. I then used a stud remover and they came out much easier. It was the heads and shafts that 'welded' themselves to the sub-frame aluminum. Once this was removed the bolts came out much easier.

I also drilled a small hole above each bolt to allow me to dribble penetrating oil down onto the top of the bolt inside the main frame using one of those small red tubes that come with spray oils.

First look at my thread on the 'R' and then check the condition of the sub-frame aluminum behind the rear wheels where the mounts are. If it is still fairly shiny and no signs of it going crummy, then it is good. Otherwise you will need another sub-frame.

You know we are giving you a hard time taking on an AWD, but if it is in good condition they are nice to drive, particularly in the winter.

Neil.

Once spent a good hour and a half mangling an oil filter on a 1998 v70. Thing was crushed and my hands were raw trying to twist it. My better half told me over the phone to try and spin it the other way and the filter came straight off. One can file there way through engineering however they still forget their left and right directions.

A second one was changing a tire on grass using the standard stand. Car eventually fell over just seconds after a friend pulled me out.

Failures mentioned in other threads:

-Changed calipers on a project s70 2.3T 1999 auto, did not realize that the bleeders were open on the front calipers. Drained half the reservoir onto concrete and probably added a lot more air to the system.

-Didnt put enough tranny fluid after a drain and fill. Figured it out when i could not go past 80 km/h on a highway rated for 100. Had a fun time driving back to the shop at 10pm to sort that out in the dark.

-Was a previous year but hit a pothole hard enough to blow out a tired and make a circle wheel into a square. Had forgotten the jack at home and decided to drive it 10km in mid day on sidestreets to get home. Phone was dead as well. I will never forget the look one women gave me which essentially said "no no no no no" as my car rocked up and down on the mangled wheel.

-Didn't run winters in my last volvo, that eventually lead to an effective empirical test of the SIPS system in a 1998 v70 ;)

In search of a clunk from the front right when going over road bumps for the 6 months. Found and fitted junk yard struts that had new shocks fitted (just to rule out parts) new drop links, one needed tie rod end left and not needed right. Replaced front strut spring seats and bearings. Multiple searches for tools that may have fallen down engine bay, and ultimately feelings of despair and impure thoughts of replacement with a ‘new’ car - any make or model - just something with less than 190k...

Walking in tight car park, shoe catches front bumper corner and hear the same noise...discover bumper loose at front corner... shed tears of joy/wonder/exhaustion... refit bumper in car park, drive home happy.

Some of my finest work on our E83

I did PcV on this 5 years/ 60k ago , has run flawlessly.

I developed a no code ignition fault which I chased last month before finally figured out was an intermittently failing coil. During diagnosis I noticed Long term fuel trims were high

Smoke tested it and ....
