This morning, I decided to clean the ETM from my ‘99 V70 XC parts car in the hope that it will work in the ‘00 V70.

Only after Abscate so graciously offered one he had on hand, did it dawn on me that I had harvested it from the V70 with a busted flywheel. Fingers crossed!

Replaced the ETM and have never heard the car run worse. At first, the RPMs began to climb steadily. Then, it sputtered and jerked when attempting to accelerate.

Had a little time between garden jobs while waiting for stuff to dry. Decided to swap the cabin filter on the V70R. Stupid here forgot that it is not a regular P80 so not the 10 minutes I planned for. You can't lift the plastic cover after undoing the 2 screws on the plastic wiper cover plate on the RHS. Nope. You have to remove the drain tube wrestling that horrid 3 prong clip. Then you have to undo the 3 LHS strut bolts to remove the strut brace. Well done Volvo! Another stupid design!!

You have to also loosen the brace locating bolt so it can be forced off the strut bolts. Then you can remove the old filter. Considering the car has only done about 8000 miles in 8 years, the filter was filthy. Car is garage stored so can only believe the forest fires up here every summer and me grinding stuff in the garage have contributed to this state.

As the repair manual says. Reverse process to finish. Torque strut nuts to spec.

So about 30 minutes for what should be a 10 minute job on any other P80. I am beginning to hate this car again especially with the P0442 emissions leak code again. I think I will just put it away again and put its cover over it for another year!

Got a seat for an old peugeot racer i found on the side of the road, cant wait to take it out on monday. Fixed and reaimed my headlights. The shims came loose for the projectors so reshimming fixed the aim.

Tried to fix a toilet today and got beat by weird gasket designs. Might just get a new toilet and some new flex pipes tomorrow.

Fun and busy day it was!

I ran into the same dilemma a couple weeks ago when replacing my filter. I may or may not have just bent the cowl and creatively slipped the old filter out and the new one in. My cowl isn’t in the best shape anyway, so I wasn’t too sad about the small crack I added... oops!
Oh well, it should be good for another year. Judging by how nasty the old one was, that’s about the longest I can go between replacing.

I’ve actually gotten a lot done in the past couple days! Finished up the engine replacement on my 2010 Forte. That purrs like a kitten... no more knocking rod bearing! Just need to break in the new clutch, detail it, and some other stuff before that’s ready to go. I finally got around to replacing the serpentine belt tensioner on the R the other day too. The bearing was toast! Replaced the starter and oil filter housing gasket on my brother’s E90 335i last night, that car should be good for another probably 15 minutes before it needs any more work. Earlier in the day I fixed a clogged up AC evaporator in a friend’s RAV4. That was nuts... I drained probably a quart of water from that thing. I’ve never seen one so backed up. Then earlier tonight, I replaced the front brakes on my mom’s XC90 and pulled the LF strut to replace the missing washer that goes over the bump stop (it had been misplaced when my dad replaced the struts a couple years ago). For whatever reason, the one I had thought came from it was the wrong one... wonderful. I could have pulled one from my S60R parts car (that I really need to crush already) but I couldn’t easily get it jacked up and pulled, so whatever... it went back together. It’s more of a fail safe part than a necessary one. Just don’t let your spring seat fail and it won’t have to serve its purpose of preventing the strut rod from going through the hood!
Also replaced the fuel door hinge, that’s been broken since we bought it. It’s so nice, it doesn’t just loosely flop around now! I still need to diagnose a nasty sounding creak when backing out of the driveway and turning the wheel hard left. The control arm bushings don’t look great, but they’re not bad. They aren’t terribly old either, 2 years at the most. Tie rods are new, and the ball joints were replaced at the same time as the control arms. SBLs were done as well, and they aren’t loose. This is a weird one.

I hadn’t thought of that! Yes, I put it in the NA ‘00 V70. That would be mismatched, wouldn’t it?

Yup, that would be the issue. Turbo and NA ETMs aren't compatible. They'll do exactly what yours is doing.
