How Hong Kong Flattened the Curve Without Total Lockdown
...
...
What's notable about Hong Kong's success, experts say, is that the
city managed the first wave of COVID-19 without resorting to the kind
of complete lockdowns that are paralyzing economies elsewhere. And now
that the infection rate is slowing, some locals are beginning to see
signs of "life as usual" on the horizon.
..

"Life for many people here has got back to normal, except that they
wear masks,"

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Hong Kong was announced on
Jan. 23. Later that month, the government began intense surveillance
for infections, not only for incoming travelers, but also in the local
community. Extensive efforts were also made to track down and
quarantine all close contacts an infected person had seen two days
before becoming ill.

Coronavirus is killing far more US health workers than official data
suggests

Challenges in collecting data, a patchwork of state tracking systems
and patients who die at home mean the true toll of Covid-19 on US
healthcare workers is unknown

The number of healthcare workers who have tested positive for the
coronavirus is probably far higher than the reported tally of 9,200,
and US officials say they have no comprehensive way to count those who
lose their lives trying to save others.

CDC officials said data provided by states most closely tracking the
occupations of people with the virus suggest that healthcare workers
account for about 11% of all Covid-19 infections.
...
...
The CDC data released on Tuesday showed that 73% of the health workers
falling ill are female and their median age is 42.

Note - "Nursing home #Covid19 deaths in the US cross the 10,000
threshold, which is more than all Covid deaths in Germany and
Netherlands, combined population 100 million."[1]

Coronavirus Deaths in U.S. Nursing, Long-Term Care Facilities Top
10,000

Industry says it is struggling to get the testing it needs to detect
and contain outbreaks

A growing number of state health departments are reporting data,
including fatalities, linked to facilities that primarily house older
people, who often are in frail health and are particularly vulnerable
to infections from the new coronavirus. Some states still haven't
reported data on deaths in such facilities, including Ohio and
Washington state, but a Wall Street Journal survey has found at least
10,783 fatalities among more than 35 states that either report data
online, or responded to requests for information.[2]

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
State growth rates for April 22, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands(0.500) with 54 cases, Arkansas (0.350) with 2392 cases, Minnesota (0.134) with 2721 cases, Tennessee (0.131) with 7842, and Delaware (0.118) with 3200 cases. Arkansas and Tennessee had significant growth rate increases in the last three days. Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and South Carolina have not continued their up trend of several days ago. I will watch these states to see if trends continues.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0434 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.0383. This is not population or case number weighted.

Tidbits:

1. "The outcome of their research was startling. By closing the schools in
a hypothetical town of 10,000 people, only 500 people got sick. If
they remained open, half of the population would be infected."

2. Just FYI... Singapore has seen its cases double in just the past few
days (after initially appearing to have Coronavirus under control).
Singapore's daily temp hovers in the high 80's with nearly 90%
humidity.

3. Earth turns wilder and cleaner - As people stay home amid pandemic, Earth turns wilder and cleaner ... People are also noticing animals in places and at times they don't
usually. Coyotes have meandered along downtown Chicago's Michigan
Avenue and near San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. A puma roamed the
streets of Santiago, Chile. Goats took over a town in Wales. In India,
already daring wildlife has become bolder with hungry monkeys entering
homes and opening refrigerators to look for food.

4. Special Report: As virus advances, doctors rethink rush to ventilate

5. No Fever: 70 percent - One other surprising finding from the study was that 70 percent of the
patients sick enough to be admitted to the hospital did not have a
fever. Fever is currently listed as the top symptom of covid-19 by the
CDC, and for weeks, many testing centers for the virus turned away
patients if they did not have one.

6. Defying virus warnings, crowds take to Japan's beaches and mountains

7. Cito, longe, tarde - That's Latin for "Leave quickly. Go far away. Come back slowly.

State growth rates for April 23, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: Minnesota (0.180) with 2942 cases, Nebraska (0.178) with 2124 cases, Guam (0.154) with 139 cases, Arkansas (0.142) with 2599 cases, and Oklahoma (0.129) with 3017 cases. Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma have returned to up trend yesterday. I will watch these states to see if trends continue.

I looked closer to see which states that have growth rate trending higher. I compared the 5 day moving average for April 23 to April 18. The top 10 worst performers (increasing growth rate average) are: Guam (4.4), Arkansas (2.9), South Carolina (1.80), Tennessee (1.4), Kansas (1.4), Nebraska (1.3), Iowa (1.2), Washington (1.2), Utah (1.1), and Idaho (1.1). The number is the later date moving average divided by the earlier date moving average.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0439 for yesterday, up slightly from previous day of 0.0434. This is not population or case number weighted.

When a person's experiences are sheltered, they may express thoughts which are based upon concepts. For instance, Elizabeth Holmes had an idea, finger prick blood test, but she was not grounded in analytical lab techniques. She has excellent PR skills, but she was informed this was not possible, and then she proceeded onward. In the case of that guy, he's suggesting conceptual ideas, like when he suggested to use a flu shot previously, but like Elizabeth Holmes, both are clueless to medical aspects.
===============

For those affected as described in this article, this is not good news:
A mysterious blood-clotting complication is killing coronavirus patients

With my current understanding, I suspect the immune response from covid-19 presence, can go "berserk," and affect various tissues/cells/vessels. On a medical note, I wonder if reducing viral load with drugs like remdesivir (1st choice) or avigan would reduce additional damage done via immune system. Without details, ventilators have been "treating" the effect when the cause was unknown.

She has excellent PR skills
Translation

She is blond, thin, and wearsSteveJobs turtlenecks.

Apart from being a fraud and a liar, she has a poor grasp of technical challenges and managing them.

I don’t care how much money you spend and how smart the people are, if you need to increment a technical benchmark by 1000x to make a product work, you had better shown 500x in prototype,

Not to dwell here, but her initial pursuit may have been sincere...

"When she was 7, Holmes tried to invent her own time machine, filling up an entire notebook with detailed engineering drawings. At the age of 9, Holmes told relatives she wanted to be a billionaire when she grew up. Her relatives described her as saying it with the "utmost seriousness and determination.

Holmes had an "intense competitive streak" from a young age. She often played Monopoly with her younger brother and cousin, and she would insist on playing until the end, collecting the houses and hotels until she won. If Holmes was losing, she would often storm off. More than once, she ran directly through a screen on the door."
