Thank you thank you thank you....
If it weren't for this site and you guys this car would have been recycled!

The head is Clean used 1000,1500,2000 grit with WD40 its nice and clean , mostly looked like oil stains no real thick stuff, No gasket material.
Did the same to the Pistons knocked of the metal that roll and hit with the sand paper same as the head...just used my thumb. Glad I did some of those pieces I was able to pick off using my thumb cnail..
Anyways with nothing else I can do yet I been stripping the other for spare parts...lol

This whole thing has been freaking the wife out! Told im killing myself for an old and car, Just Get a New One!
My reply was your right I should replace everything I ride with a new one..... I got a warm fuzzy FU look and she walked away....lol

Covered the edges of the Pistons to hopefully keep the sand paper grit out .

Why do the pictures turn upside down?

Thans again! ,

My wife says the same thing, but she knows that playing with the cars keeps me close to home and under her command.

The fun of it all is you can look at that picture and be perfectly calm, borrowing the words of "Spicolli" - "I can fix it". (name the movie)

The piston looks ready for another 200k. Project seems to be moving along nicely.

Its moving along ok... I may be overly cautious but for all the discomfort this project is causing me I do not and will not do it again....
Hope the weather holds, out got chilly fast today and I have rhe car outside...
Tomorrow ill try out the cheap Valve compression too i got from amazon and hopefully start on the valves other than that I dont know what I can do...
Picked up new oil and a filter today im sure some coolant got mixed in when removing the head plus just to be on the safe side...
Fire box/oil trap looked so good I dont think cleaning it would of made it better. Angle Gear is full.
Calling it a night ...

Thanks!

Hello again..
Time to try and get a few more things done..
My cheap spring compressor tools workec just fine, Got all the valves out and trying to clean them before trying to lap them and replace the stem seals.

This what I have don't know how much more I can do to the stems themselves. I Soaked in parts cleaner Carbon Remover for over 24 hour... its old stuff may be spent, then chucked on to a drill and with while Scott Pad very soft for polishing I ran it thu..
Not sure how aggressive I can get with these valve..
Anyways.... Here what I started and ended with... What do you guys think?

There was quite some carbon deposit on them. Did you also try Seafoam? Good for carbon and oil varnish.
I'd use a steel wire sponge on these, gently. I wonder if these have a coat or something?

Hi Oragex

To me that's Alot of Carbon ! I can tell that the seals are hard and brittle lots of oil had to be getting by them...
I don't know if they have a coating or not..... I just don't want to scratch them and ruin them...
If no one thinks I need to go any further with cleaning ill just move on....

Thanks for your input.

You only need to worry about scratching the area that passes through the valve stem seals. The area I am seeing that still has build up will not touch the seal. What I do is take a razor blade AT AN ANGLE with the valve spinning in a cordless drill. I knock as much as I can and then follow up with a Scotch Brite pad. You can get those cleaner, just use caution with the blade so you don't cut your self. I have worked on way worse and got them clean down to the metal without scratching them. Some people take the valve to a wire brush on their grinder (numerous videos on this). What every you leave behind will attract buildup, but to be honest most likely the engine will have other issues before the build up gets super bad.

Thanks SuperHerman.

I watched a bunch of those videos. I thought wire brush was a little too much...
I am using the drill with the scotch brite pads I finally gave in and started using the Gray,Brown,Green, white pads...
It working but is a PITA... Taking way too long, I can't just leave it be.... its a sickness.

Anyways, ill get back to it today and post the results.

Thanks again for your input...
