I have a tiny ding in the leading edge of my hood so I tried this Car-Part.com search, with a reasonable radius. There were a dozen undamaged hoods available, all $100 or less. Surprised.

Car-part.com has been very hit or miss for me. There are many occasions I call and they have already crushed the car.

Not much doing on the repair front. Keep trying to shake covid, but it is determined after nearly 2 weeks to hang on! Oh, well don't feel too bad so will tackle our son's XC70 headlights and bumper removal tomorrow.

On a different front, I have been offered a 96 850 GLE wagon with about 190,000 miles on it. Needs a little work (brake caliper and possibly axle boots on one side). Other than 2 dents on the passenger side courtesy of a deer, front RH fender and rear door) the car looks well cared for. Don't really need another car but owner wants it to go to someone who can repair and get it back on the road. He thinks he has the parts needed in his stash for the repairs. He doesn't want the car crushed and I agree with that. Looks otherwise way too good to scrap. Maybe I can find a good home for it after repairs?

This is dangerous!! I may be living on borrowed time! (according to my wife!) :D

I disassembled the D pillar trim on both sides of my 2001 V70 because I could not get my medium size hands into the small size opening to reinstall the brake light socket. I had initially trying to correct the Position Light Bulb Failure warning, but I may have caused the brake light problem by removing the socket.
A partial success. I only broke one piece of the trim and will glue when I get some fresh super glue. I found the driver side brake light
socket would not stay in place to make contact. I removed the upper half lens and was able to look closely at the socket mating area. A small section of the plastic tab had broken and that side would not latch in place. I thought I had a spare, but found I only had the bottom half of the lens.
I will try to super glue the broken part in place and see it that will work. Otherwise, IPD has original Volvo lens top half for about $130.

I am now thinking that I should drill out the bolt holding the mount in place, remove it, drill it out and mount a new bolt running all the way through. Turn it into a bushing, in oher words.

Is there a hole that already runs through that mount, or is it a solid piece?

Here is an in depth thread on the subject. Options range from replacing the entire delta link to grinding down the thread until it tapers and then welding an M12x1.75 bolt that cut to the appropriate length. Good luck. Personally I would go the delta link route but there doesn't seem to be an easy way out of this one.
I believe I'm close to resolution. I very carefully drilled off the 'button' on the outboard side with a 1/2" pilot bit drill, until it was flush, and of course it had a pilot hole. Then took another pilot bit of the right size for a M12 hardened bolt. I VERY carefully drilled through, using machinist's cutting fluid, taking lots of breaks, and making sure to go as close to perpendicular as I could. After about 45 minutes the drill began to run out a little on the end of the tapered portion of the mount (so it wasn't exactly centered...) and at that point I cut off the remainder of the original mountiing stud. I ran through a Grade 10.9 flange bolt, 90mm, threw the shock on, and cranked it on with a washer, a flange nut, and a tad of red locktite.

Seems solid. That bolt is not going to sheer, and the shock mount is riding once again on the OEM tapered mount.

Maybe it will get noisy or need some more tweaking, but for now I'm satisfied with the progress. The car can be driven.

EDIT: Took it out and tossed it around some of my favorite twisties, and gave the engine a little bit of an Italian tuneup while I was at it. Everything is acting as it should. Suspension feels nice and tight, no noises or weirdness at all.

Unfortunately, I didn't really take any and there's not much to see now... just a black bolt head on the outboard side of the trailing arm. Only somebody in the know would notice it isn't stock.

I bounced it all around again this morning, it's all fine.

The skill here is the careful centering and careful drilling so you don’t snap off a hard drill bit or make things worse

Been reading MVS for a long time but apparently have never posted

Added a 98 V70 T5M to the garage and the volume of resources here are intense for this platform, seems way more user friendly than the P2 world

Needs a lot of love on all the bolt on stuff, but I have hopes to make it a refreshed daily

The posts to Car-part.com are dangerous, may be utilizing that a lot in the upcoming months, right now a new hood would be nice (clearcoat pealing and rusty chips on the nose) :D
