Went back to look at the V70 that I saw previously. I was able hear it run and pull codes. Had a transmission code or two, low signal something or other. It also smoked terribly when warm. I also found that the throttle was known to stick wide open.

I passed.

Most likely valve stem seals and pcv needing done. Can't recall if it was a turbo?

The throttle sticking if a 98 with wire throttle to gas pedal it has either got a broken strand in the inner cable, cable needs lubed internally and the throttle mechanism needs cleaned and lubed.

Trans issues could be anything without knowing more details. Does the trans work?

NA, like my 96 850 sedan

It did have smoke coming from the dipstick tube, but I didn't see any or feel much "breeze" coming from the oil filler, which I thought was odd. Also had smoke coming out of the exhaust flex joint area.

It didn't seem to be sticking when I looked at it, but the guy said he had sprayed something on the linkage to free it up. His theory on the smoke was that the throttle stuck and someone let the engine REV for too long. He said he almost hit the building the first time he put it in gear because he wasn't expecting it. It's an auction house that has the car.

I was told not to put it in gear because of the throttle, and while curious, I had pretty much already made up my mind that I was going to pass.....I'd like to have a wagon, but I can wait for a car that's in a bit better condition.

I think that is what I would do too. Eventually a better example will come along.

Good job passing on the beater. A car with that many problems Is free. If you can’t drive it to test stuff, it’s a parts car.

The auction house actually doesn't allow test drives at all. The only thing allowed is pulling forward, and then backing right back into the parking space. That's how I bought my current Volvo.... same auction house. I'm sure if I pushed the subject, I would have been allowed to put it in gear, as I was looking/hearing about the car it became less important to me :lol:

Engine's out of the C70, not without a good amount of swearing.
AC compressor bolts are still a pain to get to, lower gearbox coolant line nut was so stuck I ended up cutting the line and i'm really pushing the 250kg limit on that hoist :mrgreen:

Last inspection noted damage to driveshaft boots, wasn't wrong, both side were like that

saves me a few steps from having to walk back into the garage haha

and easier to pack everything when it starts raining, which happened a few times
