Blown head gasket? No white smoke that i noticed. Also, dipstick showed Zero, even though it was perfect two days ago.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved
Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Sadly...had my 98 S70 towed home
Was running perfect as usual, get off the off ramp to my house, sitting at the light, she stumbled, shuttered, but was still running. Just as i stepped on the go pedal, she shuddered again, low coolant light came on and she died. Hissing from the coolant tank, smoke (Maybe steam) from the oil fill cap (When opened). Now she cranks like when your doing a compression test, but wont start. Doesn't look good.

If you got it shut down quickly you probably saved the bottom end.
No oil, though?
Yikes.

Yeah, that won’t run too well. Coil on plugs are more forgiving than cap rotor ( did we ever g et beyond speculation on if ME7 controls spark voltage?) but that’s still twice spec.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑20 Apr 2018, 07:14 I'm hoping that sexy Italian throttle body isn't causing the rough/pulsing idle. I'm partially attributing that to the spark plugs being incorrect and having a gap of almost 0.060". No CEL or codes, so I take it that's a good thing.
The ETS light is pretty reliable if there is a ETB fault

Well that's comforting, because that hasn't come on. I'm thinking the MAF or ETM might just need to be cleaned. The car revs up and down at idle after running a minute. It'll surge down to 500-600 RPM, then rev back up to maybe 1,200.
It still revs freely in neutral and park, so that makes me feel a little better.

Could be an intake manifold leak too, no?bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2018, 06:57Well that's comforting, because that hasn't come on. I'm thinking the MAF or ETM might just need to be cleaned. That's a good point, it could be any vacuum leak for that matter. As usual, I'm overlooking the obvious....
I've been tied up with the 740 the past few days trying to get it running. Currently trying to figure out why the fuel pump relay isn't grounding to the ECU.

Find the vacuum hose in front of cylinder 3, pop it off, then pull the hose out to the driver side and inspect for holes

Gonna do that tomorrow... the one in the middle of the intake manifold? It’s definitely cracked at the fitting, so I’m sure the rest of it is pretty bad. All of the vacuum hoses I’ve noticed are pretty dried out, so checking and replacing those is on the list.

I'd say you lost oil first, like RMS or holed oil pan, that caused rapid heating and head gasket breach. Look for signs on bottom of car. Sad way to welcome you to the forum. But hey, it's a 98, simpler systems, 94-98 applicability for donors. Maybe more for the bottom end if your head is salvageable.KeithG wrote: ↑20 Apr 2018, 19:24 Sadly...had my 98 S70 towed homeWas running perfect as usual, get off the off ramp to my house, sitting at the light, she stumbled, shuttered, but was still running. Fixed a pretty significant vacuum leak on the R today. The pulsing idle isn't as bad now, but it's still there. I'm going to go through the rest of the hoses through the week. The 740 is still driving me nuts with its no fuel condition.
This was the right side of the hose in the middle of the intake manifold, past the check valve.
