The 17" might be a bit much for that shape. You could take the Volvo centers and weld into a 16" barrel, with stock hubcaps.
I always liked a slightly hot-rodded 122 with with American Racing classic Torq Thrusts with the grey centers. You can order them in 16".
I guess I’m going to call him “Leo”

That wheel is exactly what I’m going to buy. Once I get the lowering springs in I’ll see what fits, but I should be good with a 16x7.

I seem to remember that back in the 60/70's modders used to say they fitted Ford rims to Amazons as they had the same wheel stud pitch.
I have a set of 'Cosmic' branded magnesium alloys on my 123 GT. They were a nice looking rim.

When I wanted rolling shop tires for my PV544, I searched the internet for suitable modern tires and wheels. I found Ford Astro van wheels with nice tires at the local salvage yard. They fit the bolt pattern, but seem too large for actual use.

The bolt pattern is 5x4.5 and it’s the same as Ford and some others. I keyed in on those American Racing Torq thrust wheels right away. They look a lot like old Mustang rims as well. I’ll definitely be going with those, it’s just a matter of size. I think I’ll be fine with a 16x7 as it will be a little wider than the 15x5.5 that are on it now. The tires will be shorter than the current 165/80 15’s. The 16x7’s will probably have a 205/50 16 on them. It will also shed about 6 miles an hour off the already fast speedo. I might be able to get a gear with an extra tooth or two to make the speedo read close to accurate.

Injecting my opinions here, apologies!
It's interesting to see the proportions of wheel to body on any era or car. Some were part of the style of that era - giant diameter wires on pre-war cars, dinkycar wheels on 80s econoboxes.
This is that Seattle car I liked so much. He experimented with several wheels. These are OE wide wagon wheels - You can't lose with this. Car sits nice and low.
A Moon-Equipped hot rod I like. Very low, American Racing, but chrome. I vote no on chrome wheels. I've seen them with 240 turbo wheels, but I think you have to change hubs and put in an 1800 rear axle, which is why they stick out in back...
Look at this! Someone took a Volvo center, had it fabricated into a 3-piece wheel, and kept the hubcap. A bit over the top, and maybe 17 or 18".
Old skool hot rod steelies...
Entirely too much wheel...
German BBS-style I don't think work on an old Volvo...
These are 17's. A bit too big, too fat, tires stretched...
17's I think as well. Too much offset, hub sticks out towards the outside too much. Car sits too high besides.
or...y'know, the salt flats look.... Wires?? Wut?? It does sit down nicely over it's wheels. And of course, GRRRRRR

Lol.. Wheels will be sometime after paint. What caught my eye when I was googling some time back was the first picture below. Torq thrust kinda wheels, but really 17” mustang wheels. I don’t want to go that big, but I do like the look. Then I saw the next car (2nd picture). Since I’m painting the car all black, this will be very close to the end result.

In the UK again, they use Minilite alloy wheels on many older rally cars and sports cars. Hugely popular. I think they may be available in the US.

I replaced the front and back springs. I also replaced the upper and lower ball joints in the front since I had to take it all apart. Huge difference in the springs, pics below, but really only about an inch total in ride height.
