Do you need to replace the shock to knuckle bolts, are they torque to yield or maybe they can eventually fatigue due to shear loads?

I guess they could fatigue over time, but I've never replaced them. I would only bother with replacing them if they are really nasty looking and coated in heavy rust.

I’ve got the cross nut socket if anyone is really hot to use it. I think the Lisle tool is cheaper than shipping , though, so might only make sense for folks in my monthly span....ORD to DC to BOS

This is my MO too, based on what others do on the forums. I've not heard of one breaking. On the other hand I've seen control arm-to-subframe bolts rusted away to nothing; I re-use those too but only if they are not showing any rust (anti-sieze in there helps a lot).bmdubya1198 wrote: 19 Jul 2018, 08:00 I guess they could fatigue over time, but I've never replaced them. Alldata (data from VIDA) says to use new
nstall
both screws retaining the spring strut in the stub axle. Use new screws and nuts. Tighten to 105 Nm and angle-tighten 90° . Use bevel protractor 951 2050
anti-roll bar link to the spring strut. Use a new nut. Tighten to 50 Nm
I have reused these in the past if in good condition, punch mark and document a day/week/month inspection for creep.
105 Nm plus 90 degrees is a LOT of torque.

From an fcp screenshot I have the torque is 65nm + 90deg for the shock to spindle. 105nm is way too high
The dealer wants $60 cdn pesos for each spring seat, is that normal? Should they be Volvo only?
I found a local supplier for Sachs struts

105Nm is what is on the P2 struts I did recently for our XC70 4C struts + 90 degrees.
In that case I fitted new bolts as a dealer mechanic had over tightened the bolts with an impact gun. I couldn't get them loose on one side.
P80 I re-use the bolts as the torque is not high. Only one I am reluctant to re-use is the control arm to strut/ball-joint bolt. At lease use a new locking/nyloc nut, but use a new bolt too if it shows any significant rust.
Neil.

$60 CDN/~$45 USD sounds about right for a Volvo spring seat. Sachs seats go for $30/piece USD on FCP.

Thanks guys and I assume the improved Volvo spring seat design is a proprietary part made by Volvo, only available from the dealer
