I can only agree with this statement. Abscate is fearless when it comes to tackling even the most daunting jobs. Makes me feel really whimpy

Agreed! I'm fortunate enough to have a nice shop now, but I still probably do more complaining than Abscate does when he's working on the driveway!

I am surprised and glad to see abscate replying and pointing out things so much here. Its lovely see no matter what and where. I just got to see the clutch work as it flew under my radar. Thats super. Very few gonna go that length (mostly they just trash the car.. sad in my mind) and so happy see that to be done and specially in own limited spaces (and tools! Always something missing when doing such works).

I love seeing the recovery projects like bdubs Awd conversion and R to M56. Gotta feel the love on that one.

I officially closed sea trials for the Kat today. A 5 hour run through the Bronx and Queens and out to Montauk.

I’ve put 2000 miles on her and she pulls with great power and gives 27 mpg overall.

After all your work it is great to see another potential scrapper become road worthy again, even in light of the parts lack of availability for the P80 AWD models now. You were able to overcome the 2 biggest hurdles of the fuel pipe and pump NLA situations. Also documenting those help the rest of us nuts enough to love/hate? our AWD's to keep them going. So a big THANKS to abscate!

Replaced the coolant hose at the base of the reservoir as it developed a pinhole leak. Cleaned the lenses for the liscense plate lights at the rear of the vehicle and installed some Zevo LED sylvania lights. Had to tack on a glob of solder to one as corrosion got the better of one of the mount contacts. Lights are bright enough to cast a shadow of the bumper which is handy for parking at night.

Front o2 sensor code was coming up, i tried to cut one out of my old vehicle but was not able to free the muffler. Will need to bring a jack to raise the crashed car to sawzall the sensor out prior to hitting it with a breaker bar. I cleaned and greased the contacts for shits and giggles and cleared the o2 fault and my car seems more responsive and the mileage has gotten significantly better. It does not smell like gas coming from the exhaust so ill see how long that bandaid will hold.

Purchased an air filter for my partners RDX, 29$ for an oem hurt but didnt hurt as much as i though it would considering fram was 23$.

Today marked one of the first times where all my dash lights were out (was too lazy and cheap to buy washer fluid as it was going for 6$ of canadian funny money per gallon. Found it for 3.31 one at a home depot and purchased 2 jugs. The car is stable, and not vibrating or making any odd noises. 395k km looks pretty good on it. Not nearly as much rust as the car i wrecked previously and the parts are feeding this car.

I might need to renew the old 98 S70 i initially purchased for parts as a family member needs a car next year.

The list of repairs that will be needed include the following:
-new rotos all round
-new pads all round
-check calipers to see if they seized, otherwise rebuild
-new throttle cable as current assembly is partially seized
-check alignment
-potentially new shocks at the front
-charge the AC system
-re-install the radio system
-swap my ripped chair into it as it has an R chair in mint condition. A first car should have some character and my car will be a lot nicer with it.
-LED headlights
-potentially fix seized sunroof motor

1998 V70 N/A Auto New full restoration project (Water pump thrown at 404K Km)

1999 S70 T5 Auto(Project) (planned to be fixed)

Whenever you start thinking you are good I reach for the video of the UK guy who does 4 hour clutch replacements on Volvos…in your driveway. He is insanely good.

Not currently working on Volvo, but may be of interest. I have 2001 Mercedes E320. It gave a sudden problem where the ignition switch would not turn to start the engine. Internet search pointed to the key switch not identifying the key to allow start. Second key gave the same results. Mercedes dealers would charge $1200 to 1500 to replace the ignition switch module. Another potential problem cause was a discharge battery.
Battery tested about 12.7 volts. After a full charge on the battery, the switch identifies the key, key turns, and car starts. No $$$ spent on repairs.
Moral: Always check battery voltage for modern car electrical problems!
