Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Had my trunk get stuck after it closed on a camping chair. Looking forward to taking off the covering with the trunk in place to manually actuate the latch. Seems like the handle is not connecting to anything. I just replaced the trunk latch but did not think to replace the receiver.

Well not the Volvo but an apology to Toyota. The 4Runner went to the dealer while I was having a root canal, so how could the day get worse??
Well, apart from the bill the root canal was long but painless so not so bad.Expecting way more pain at the Toyota dealer.
Dealer had a delay completing the car as the specialist diagnostic tech supervisor could not get to it until this afternoon and not this morning. Anyway went up late afternoon and car was almost done on the items for diagnostics.
Good news none of the 3 issues were an issue, so I still am baffled by the strong chemical smell in the cabin over multiple days, AC working fine maybe might need a top up. Fancy sniffer machine could find no issues??
Fluid suspension is hard as they are supposed to be, not soft and marshmallow as per everyone I have spoken to on the 4-Runner website.
Lazy transmission, especially going into O/D gear is normal on the Gen 4 4Runners.
Best news was when I asked what I owed them for their time. $0!!! The tech foreman wished me a Happy Christmas. Oh, and the soft brakes. Probably the accumulator. A mere $800 used and a long job.....................Ho, Hum.
Should add Volvo content. XC70 took me to the Toyota dealer and 'R' went on parking insurance for the winter. No inspection required in spring. Yay!

Trying to get my "new" S70 back in action after Mondays brake seizing episode..... nothing went well, still not done. I ended up cleaning up the existing caliper, and installing the new hose. The rebuilt caliper from Orielly isn't right.
Before all that, I did go top off the 850 with Premium, and fill me up with coffee. Then I ran it through the car wash, and used their powerful vacuums. That was enjoyable. Hopefully, that was it's last outing for the year.
Test driving the S70 tonight, I wish the 850 was a turbo. I do enjoy the 850, but it's sloooow.

Removed tons of spider webs from underneath and on tires. Don’t want the home association seeing it looking abandoned. It’s been sitting for quite some time now. I have suspension parts for my bimmer arriving in a few days though so it will finally get some exercise while working on the bmw.

I got a pretty wicked looking web on my truck earlier this year. It started to look like they were going after the squirrels!kallekula wrote: ↑02 Dec 2022, 23:01 Removed tons of spider webs from underneath and on tires. Thank you for the invitation! I have mandatory kids swim team “volunteer” duty or else we would’ve been there.abscate wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022, 20:35Bring it and the kids out to port Jeff for the weekend and we will get her donebrunocerous wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022, 14:26 Ordered the new Nissens radiator and crossing my fingers that the weather cooperates this weekend.
I had just enough time before it got too dark to drain the coolant, remove the fan assembly and strip one of the screws holding the rad to the condenser. I’ll pick up replacement screws after I’m done “volunteering” tomorrow morning.

Did the pads on the other side of the front of the S70 today. While I was working, my FCP order came in, so I had to inspect my order, of course. I bought a blue box Volvo air filter, just to have on hand, two bolts for the thermostat housing, 4 side marker lights, a gas door latch, an ECM air duct, and two amber light bulbs for the side lights.
I broke a side marker light the other day trying to figure out why it wasn't lit...nothing connected to it, and I don't see the wire. That was after breaking the side that did work.... apparently those things are SUPER fragile after they get a little age on them. Today, I replaced both sides on the S70. The driver's side just isn't plugged in.... will try to locate the wire later. I'm just happy not to have an open hole in my fender.
I also installed the new air duct/pipe/hose for the ECM. The original was two pieces. The accordion section in the middle disintegrated. The new one, has a holder for the coolant reservoir hose, that the original did not. I had already taken pictures in anticipation of asking about proper routing for that hose, because the existing route looked off. The new duct solves that problem.... so sooper happy with that!
The other two side marker lights I bought are amber. Next year I intend to retrofit them to the 850. I thought amber lenses would look nice on the 850, whereas the S70 has white with amber bulbs.
I also installed the OEM Volvo gas door latch on the S70. It latches fine now. The Pro Parts latch I bought previously is junk.... it looked good, but didn't actually latch well. I still don't know why the actuator doesn't work.... arms are too short to work the switch while holding probes in the connector in the trunk. I still may convert the door to an 850 door and forget about the actuator.
