My Smart has the ignition switch between the seats. It is such a strange car.

Land Rover #1. The very first chassis off the production line in 1948, found rotting in a farm field. Fun story and epic expedition....

I invited a few trusted friends over for a motor lifting party. Don't need all these guys, but it would be fun to see them all, and some have not seen my old car or project scope. It's a front-hinged hood, so that needs to be supported and carefully lifted off. I think I'll set it on the soft top. My wife is off that day, so could be 911 Officer. I got an engine stand adapter so you can hang it off the side from a motor mount, and work on rear seals, pan, flywheel, clutch. (It's only an aluminum 1600, doesn't weigh that much.) I have a big pile of moving blankets and towels for the nose and fenders.
Maybe I should bring baked goods.....

Thank gawd for Volvo wagons... This thing is heavy! Out of the warehouse into the car, out of the car into the garage - build it - lift the engine - disassemble - back in the car, out of the car and into their shop. BUT, I made the half day rate!
Put the hood...on the hood
Then I spent the rest of the weekend inside the engine compartment, scraping and scrubbing grease, washing it all off with dawn and a spray bottle to rinse. 56 years of grime, 38 of which are my fault. Steering box was caked an inch thick.
I feel like I'm going backwards - instead of assembling and finishing, I'm expanding the scope and adding more and more work. It's late August.
