Does anyone have a rust free or good condition AWD center support bracket and willing to ship? I was cleaning the muck and rust off this one and went right through. Old rotten leaves had gotten caught above it and destroyed it.
Part number was 9474483. Of course it is no longer in stock anywhere.
It seems you need to take the exhaust apart to get this piece out, so I'd rather replace it now.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

That’s fine to reuse after some phospho rust treatment and some good hammerite black paint. Thst hole isn’t structural

It got bigger the more I picked at it, but I was also concerned that the bearing mounting holes seemed stretched out too. Still recovering from COVID, I just realized I was sent the driver's side version of the "passenger side" knuckle and hub I bought. The one that came in the car was seized together with the axle, which had a torn outer boot, and the bearing now feels like it's 200 miles away from ending up in a "just rolled into the shop" YouTube compilation.

Couple of washers on each side of those holes , lots of antiseize to prevent rust. The center bearing is really low stress. It feels very little torque

Ok good, I was thinking that center bearing would be seeing more stress.
On the topic of stuck axles in hubs, the harbor freight 10 ton hydraulic puller worked great. It's a combo of a 3 jaw puller and a bottle jack. I had tried the 5 ton puller first, with the jaws on the flange of the hub and the jack pushing against the end of the axle, 5 tons wasn't enough. The 10 ton puller is larger, and I needed to put the brake rotor back onto the hub with the lug nuts, and with the jaws around the rotor, the axle pressed out after nearly maxing out the hydraulics.

In the early days of the P80 -98, with the large 36mm locking nut on the shaft, Volvo used a glue to stop the axle splines moving in the hub. It makes a devil of it to remove the shaft from the hub. Once you have it out, if you plan to re-use the shaft, us a pick to run up and down the splines to break the glue out. Apparently, they had customers complaining of a clicking from the hubs.
I think I still have a bottle of that stuff kicking around somewhere!

I'm with the others, that's just a flesh wound. Clean it up, preservation paint, it'll be fine. Mine fell in half when I unbolted it on the '98. The one under my '00XC doesn't have a mark on it, but the bearing holes are a bit different, and the new one showed up, so I hung it under the car. It will come off the car without dropping the whole exhaust if you unhook the hanger rubbers and let the pipe hang down a bit.
At some point I think I found a different part number for the XC, but memory fades.

Last night was interesting. While I'm at work on shift, the wife calls to tell me her 3yr old truck will not start at Target. Luckily she's just down the street from me. So I hop in my xc90 to go get her and when try to shift out of park the gear knob button made a *crunch* noise and dissolved. With a bit of fiddling I was able to move it into gear and then heard another *crunch*. Now I'm limited to drive and neutral. So I thought "cool, I just won't park unless I can pull forward". So off to rescue the wife. I get there and of course still can't shift into park. So neutral and parking brake it is. While leaving the car running I quickly determined the wife's truck is F***** so decided to take her back with me to work so I could finish the shift. Only had an hour or so left anyway.
Got back to work and realized if I shut the car off, the key is now stuck in position 1 and still can't shift into park. So neutral and parking brake again, pulled the battery cable so I could finish my shift.
After work I get back to working on the shifter so we can at least get home. It's also pitch black outside with the wife holding her phone light.
*Father son flashlight holding vibes*
We start tearing into the the shifter assembly, removed the plastic shroud and start fighting with a plastic cover that is very well attached to the rest if the assembly. 3 youtube videos and many swear words later we get it apart abd discover the "claw" mechanism around the shifter has imploded abd jammed itself in various places Ripped all that out and now we can finally shift. You just have to manually move the park "lock" up/down when shift out if park. Success! We are back on the road and our relationship has survived another trial.
Back to the wife's truck. It's being hella wierd. Will crank for 2/10 of a second and just give up. Screens are acting wierd, it's just chaos everytime she tries to start it. I originally thought the immobilizer tripped but this was too random. I tested the battery and only had 10.5volts. Definitely not enough for a V8 ram. So ran to parts store that was still open, swapped out for the best battery they had, "superstart", definitely not feeling confident in that one. It works! The truck starts, although nothing works, only blowing heat, no reverse camera etc. So will have to investigate the electrical. We had a huge storm the night before so maybe something got wet. I've never had 2 vehicles simultaneously break on me. What a wierd night.

Oooofla - thats a rough car/truck day. You might only have to reset those electronic things on the truck, they dont like low voltages.

Chryslers are known for issues with the TIPM, so that could have been damaged somehow. I would start by clearing codes on all of the modules though. Hopefully it's just related to the low voltage.ZionXIX wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 11:50 Last night was interesting.
